• If you call to your local Benefits Shop / Agency, they have a booklet which details the scoring system for DLA. You can view this in the branch, but will not be allowed to take it away. This will give you all the information you need to proceed with an application ;)
I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

is this right criminal_smile? Are you sure it is for DLA? I have head of a scoring system for IB but not for DLA. Could you clarify please? If it is for DLA then this could be useful for me....

I suspect the poster is referring to
IB214 A guide to the personal capability assessment
Which gives the points for the personal capability assessment.
A scoring system for DLA was tried in 2001/2 and was called the Activities for Managing Life trial. Details GPAG

I've emailed a contact in DWP to see if I can get a comment on both the claim that a percentage of new claims are rejected as a matter of course and the "points score" for DLA. I think if there were an official points system for DLA word of it would have got out by now.

Although I accept a proportion of new claims for DLA/AA appear to be rejected without good cause it's often the case that naive claimants talk themselves out of the award and that more experienced claimants have taken advice, read around the subject and only commentdirectly to the the DLA criteria.

crutches,
Don't get disheartened, at least you've done all the groundwork for that form and others now. I would suggest letting a Citizens Advice advisor or other welfare benefits advisor have a look at it before you send it off - only if you're not going to go past the date on the form.

Do bear in mind that Decision Makers find this group of conditions the hardest to determine so more people with these conditions have to go to appeal for an award.
Also remember that less than 10% of decisions are changed on reconsideration while up to 70% are won at appeal where the claimant attends. It follows that you may as well GO STRAIGHT TO APPEAL, and not waste time on a reconsideration, should you not get the decision you feel appropriate.
Many claims don't get off the ground because the claimants own GP or named health professional doesn't support the claims on the form. To avoid, reduce the chances of this happening use the Health professionals checklist from the back of this and ask your surgery to add it to your notes.

DLA is discounted when calculating income support so no, you won't lose any money and you may well be entitled to one or more of the disability premiums payable on income support if your award is successful.

Good luck, I hope it goes ok for you :)

They must do it all automatically because when I received my DLA award I had no idea about the extra premiums paid by income support, and at that point hadn't actually contacted them at all. Due to my claim being backdated I received a giro from DLA but then I also received another giro a week or so later from income support. Thinking they must have made some mistake I didn't dare cash it, expecting them to ask for it back, and eventually got someone call them on my behalf to find out why I'd received it and they explained about the extra payments due to the DLA.
