I have an all foam mattress with memory foam on top. I love it, it was very expensive. But look at all foam with no springs mattresses0

Yep, my sister has one like that from Ikea. She has had it a few year and is happy with it.0

Mine is a Kaymed.
It wasn't in the Ikea price range.0 -
I've been looking for a new mattress, having back problems myself. I had been looking at the Ergoflex foam mattresses range, but just couldn't afford one right now.
For now, went with this one: King-size, hypo-allergenic (a selling point for my wheezing cat!), with a keep-cool air layer in the middle. So far, been very satisfied. Although I still end up on the edge of the mattress! Damn you, Freddie Bear cat!
Great service and delivery from the suppliers:

As an aside: I have spent the past 3 months on a training programme that has daily abdominal and core training. It's something I know I should do, but never did it until now. The improvements have been enormous! Back is much better and much less prone to "going out".0 -
I recently got a mattress from these guys factory-beds-direct dot co dot uk (it won't let me post the link, says I'm a new user, no idea when 'new' runs out, I've been registered 6 years now!) You can ring them up or post on their site and they'll talk you through what is best suited for yourself.
I'd recommend looking at their site just for the wealth of information they have there regarding mattresses!0 -

Anybody considering buying a new bed should read the wealth of information on this site. They are also prepared to give advice on any aspect of mattresses and although they sell beds they are quite happy to give advice on the construction of any other brand.
Being fully armed with the info on how a mattress is made I did actually buy my new bed from them last year and must say it is the best I have ever owned, especially having a long term back problem.0 -
I should !!! that I read the Which? 2012 review of mattresses, but it was not great. It only looks at 10 or 12 mattresses, and not one of them is firm. They are all soft or medium firm. It gave my sister's mattress - the Ikea Floknes a good review, but a couple of others came above it.0

May I wade in?
I've been suffering with chronic lower back pain for the past 5 years and have been playing the Goldilocks bed game for much of that.
Unfortunately until yesterday we had a Freecycle bed and mattress which we had been making do with until I found The One (honestly I feel like this has consumed a considerable part of my life). It just happened that we stayed in a lovely b&b last year where I woke up each morning with absolutely no back pain. It was a revelation. I made a note of the make up of the bed (i.e. brand of mattress and mattress topper) and have tried to replicate.
SO (sorry i did say it was important to me....) last week the saved search on eBay came up trumps and I managed to get the mattress in question and divan for under £400 (the mattress alone new can be up to £600 which is well beyond our means) and after our first night on it last night I can honestly say I feel 1 million times better today for it. Back is still hurting this evening but I'm hoping a few nights in it over the long weekend will allow pain to ease.
Its a Slumberland Gold Seal 2400 pocket sprung

The one from the b&b was the Slumberland Gold Seal 2700 pocket sprung
I also use a John Lewis down and feather mattress topper (also an eBay buy).
Sorry for waffling. If I never post on this forum again you will know I have finally found The One.0 -
Louby, I hope that one works for you Make sure you are watching your posture the rest of the time as well. I only recently found out I o not use my stomach muscles properly as I leave them loose which leaves my lower back unsupported by the mid section.
As for latex, which is in your mattress - I'm not sure about it. The factory beds website linked to above compares it to memory foam and say it is the perfect material to sleep on. But other mattress websites that get feedback from owners of mattresses report that latex is not as effective for lower back pain as memory foam.
If your one does the job for you then good. I hope it works, and I would rather get latex myself. It is just that whn I have tried latex mattresses in Ikea, they do not seem to support my back when I am lying on my side.
Latex allows my spine to seemingly curve a little as the hip seems to turn due to a lack of support at the side area just above the waist. It is kind of like the hip pushes the mattress in, but it does not push into the material like it does into memory foam. Hence the part above the waist does not get enough contact with the latex due to being raised up by the hip. I cannot explain it any better. Like I say I would prefer latex, as it probably is cooler.
Interestingly that site makes a good point about pillow top mattresses like the Ikea Hjartdal. It is not possible to flip them over as the memory foam is only on one side. Hence the bed will wear more quickly.0 -
Were unsure if to take a chance with the Hypnia Memory Foam, we of course will purchase with the credit card for a bit more protection than ebay/Paypal.
I have noticed alot of good & bad reviews on the site, which were unsure for the £150 if to take a punt on it..
