Stop reading if you don't concur.

But all you did was create another thread about the price of Gold - plenty of others you could have contributed to? Why feel the need to start anther?

Could talk about the price of fish instead.

    How much for a goldfish?

It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.

  • As this isn't too serious a thread I thought I'd post a recent dilemma here and see if others have any brighter suggestions. I got an insurance payout to replace some family Jewelry but got it in the form of Vouchers. Not sure what to buy with them and with time running out I contemplated either something nice for the wife or a good watch for myself or my final choice was just to buy the biggest lumps of gold I could get. Basically bought 3 plain wedding rings. Which had a retail price of about £1500. I still have the receipts and was toying with the idea of selling them back I know I wouldn't get full price as the highstreet rip off merchants were only offering £200. An independent dealer offered me £500 but said to try selling privately as they are brand new and shouldn't be melted down. I'm quite happy to keep them as I do have a son who may get married someday and maybe he would like one of them. But what do you suggest? what experiences good or bad have you had?

I’m not a gold bug in true sense, but I swept the market as much as I could while the prices were at a low and now that the gold prices have spurred, even though marginally, I have already earned on my investments and still earning.

I think the practice of paying insurance claims in vouchers should be banned.

Unfair terms and conditions, esp if pieces are antique, handmade or one off.

It depends on the circumstances, if the items are unique then they can normally be replaced like for like, though I woud admit you may need to push very hard to get this.

Most of the time these things are in terms and conditions and you can choose to accept or take your business elsewhere, and cash is available but are frequently reduced.

I wish I had asked about the Cash option but I was actually a bit shocked at how much I was getting in vouchers. It really does pay though to keep the receipts. One was just the receipt for some form of guarantee which thankfully had the model number from which the insurer could get a price for a replacement.

My only solace is I hope the git that robbed them was ripped off by the Cash for Gold buyers and that Karma bites them twice as hard.

Exactly, you pay for insurance and would not have to push.

Not to mention that the T&C you sign for can be changes w/.o a new policy.

    Dodgy really.

If you have a 16 ounce gold piece that is 18K you should get a price basedf on it's worth- at least as scrap price. The price they give out now as cash, isn't even scrap price.
