Ok, I think I will go with the flash / pen drive then. Never even heard of this, shows how old fashioned I am, I suppose!?

I think I'll take the laptop to a local computer store and just tell them what I want to do and to give me the correct size flash / pen drive, just so I don't get the wrong size or something.

So, you save things onto it, put it into the laptop and open them?

How much is 2 gig? Would a film fit onto that then?

depends on the film format...a film would fit yeah, even two, you can store songs, word documents, photos...anything youd store on a cd really. they were selling them for £15 2 gig in staples, other high street shops tend to be around the £2o mark although ebay etc would probably be cheaper. you just plug it into the usb port in your comp and copy or drag and drop files into it..then plug it into the other computer and stick the files onto that, i also keep inportant files on there as a backup (although i have these on cd too, you never know when you might need to use them on another comp!)
shop around for prices, some places are trying to charge £40 and up! personally i wouldnt get anything under 1 gig as youll soon find you need to buy another one...

I'm assuming that you are not running Windows XP, so make sure that USB stick that you purchase is compatible with your Operating System.

You certainly wouldn't be able to fit a film on to a Floppy disk. :)

    FYI: Floppy: 1.44MB, CD: 700MB, DVD: 4.7GB, USB drive(mini): 1GB - 4GB.

..you can get flash drives that are 128 meg too though, just for a few pics or documents..although imo 1 gig plus is the way to go!

Yeh, the floppy disk was just to transfer some files of writing! No offence taken though mate, I must come across as a bit of a backwards technophobe!:rotfl:

The operating system is Window Millenium. Is that any good / ok?

How's this for an idea? Do I even need to get the "pen"? Can I not just get a USB cable and stick one end in the laptop and one end in the PC?

Not really, there ARE USB data transfer cables about but they cost a fair bit.

You could do that with an Ethernet Crossover cable, but you would need a litle bit of networking knowledge.
Don't take this the wrong way but I doubt that is for you!! ;)

Get a cheap pen drive, no need for technical help, just plug it in a USB slot and it will appear as a drive in Windows Explorer

Millennium Edition might be ok, as it has Plug and Play capability.

1GB USB drives can be had for around £7.

Of course, if the laptop is connected to the internet, you can simply send the info from the other computer via the internet.
