Hello all,
I have bought a IBM Thinkpad 600E laptop off the net. It works fine by the looks of it, but there is no manual. I feel very silly asking this question, but there appears to be no slot for a floppy disk! Does anyone have the same laptop and if so, please could you give me a nod in the right direction? I want to take information from my home PC onto a floppy disk and into my laptop. Sounds easy, but I can't get my head around it.
Thanks in advance.

It is quite common these days for Laptops to have no Floppy drives.
It is considered quite old technology now with the widespread use of USB pen drives etc.
If you really need a floppy, the only way now is to buy an External USB Floppy drive.

How do I get some files from my home PC to my laptop then? Is burning them to CD an option?
Thanks.

I used to have a 600E. There are external caddies which plug into the interface port on the back, one of which is an FDD unit. If you want to transfer files, I would recommend a USB pen drive (assuming your desktop has USB ports) or via a network (it's not hard to set up a simple ftp server or windows file share if the computers are networked).0

if they are on the same network you can share the files across that ??Ex forum ambassador

Burning to CD is the obvious choice, and cheapest, unless you are comfortable with file sharing over your network (if you have one).
It is worth investing in a cheap pen drive for future use though just to make things simple (assuming you are using an OS more advanced than NT4)0 -
Here are the manuals, one service manual and one user manual:http://filecargo.com/dw.php?id=1179919083&/1/ThinkPad Manuals.rar
There's a minutes wait for the download to begin, sorry about that. It was the only download service I could find that didn't change the file type, or make you jump through 10 hoops and dance a fandango before you could download them.
Also, the reason the floppy drive is missing is probably due to at the time of purchase the original purchaser would have been given a choice, cd\dvd\fd or whatever as seen here: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
There does seem to be something like a floppy drive, but it is too small for the standard 3.5" discs. Is there a smaller floppy disk? Is that a zip disk?
Thanks for all this advice, people, its a big help!

ive got a thinkpad t23 and i have 2 removable drives for it, a floppy and a dvd rom (ie you have to take the dvd rom out to insert the floppy drive) but mine is an older model. i never use floppies these days, i agree with what the other posters said, get a flash drive, you can get 2 gig for £15 pounds or if you only need a small amount of storage you can get 128 or 256 mb for practically nothing, you can store anything on these, (ive got 3!
much easier than carting cds or floppies about.
