I had my lilies decimated by them last year so have been watching carefully this year. So far I've only found (and squished) one but there are greenfly, whitefly AND blackfly on my lilies this year. so far the washing up liquid spray seems to be doing the trick. ;)
  • Have just cut down lilys for 2nd year, these little guys don't give up. this year i've sprayed an 18 inch patch where plants were with BUG CLEAR, and done my best to pick up all the lava in their bird dung jackets will let you know how it goes next year.

I read somewhere that if you want to get rid of lily beetle use provado every 2 weeks regardless of whether the beetle is present or not.

Use when the bees are not around so you have to get up really early or do it in the evening and spray in near darkness.

And hope your neighbours aren't also growing lilies or fritillaries.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

I have resorted to growing them in large pots, so they can be upended to detect the larvae on the underside of the leaf.
Have just used a mirror on the main planting and found several.

I have still only found 2 lily beatles and 1 larvae but the lillies are ruined with rust and covered in greenfly so I'm not going to get any flowers this year.

Really gutted as one we have had for 11 years flowers spectacularly every year and grows to 6 feet in height.

My next door neighbour grows stunning lillies.

Can't the Provado soil drench be used, rather than spraying? I seem to remember that this stays within the plant for about 4-6 weeks and bumps off anything that nibbles it. Works OK for me when I use it in the glasshouse, which isn't much at present, but I have controlled aphids/whitefly like that in the past.

I had a big spider hiding in my lilies and he had made a web between 2 plants. I accidently flicked a red beetle into his web and within miniutes the beetle was wrapped up and being munched on.
Another one bites the dust! :-)

I have seen 2 on my Lillies. I think they see me coming
I carefully put my hand underneath, then they quickly jump off and hide.
