Even if you have no licence of any sort, the DVLA will create a "ghost licence" to keep track of your points, and if you get 12 points in 3 years you get banned from driving.*
"What's the point of banning someone who doesn't have a licence?" I hear you ask. Well, there's at least one big difference between being banned and having no licence. You can't go to prison for driving without a licence or insurance. You can for driving while banned.
*Unless you can show that a ban would cause exceptional hardship, of course. But it's hard to imagine how banning someone who isn't supposed to be driving anyway could cause exceptional hardship.0 -
Let me get this right...
Someone else was driving your sons car and he got a ban...?

But it is only 6 points in the first 2 years of driving, so are you saying they are banned before they start, or that the 6 points resets to zero at 17?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. You don't get banned for getting 6 points in the first two years of driving. I've already explained that in posts 57 and 59.0

Well he has now managed to get a quote for £4,200 and Admiral have confirmed that he has one years NCD so I think he'll just have to get saving, fortunately he's just about to get a proper wage so should be able to afford it. He did point out that with his wage increasing he wouldn't really be worse off so I've pointed out what sort of car that would have bought in comparison to his £500 Peugeot with odd coloured drivers door, bonnet and bumper just to make sure he doesn't forget about the pain!!
Please if you have any newly qualified drivers (even those who appear sensible) make them read this thread ;-)Make 11k in 2011 422.29/11,000;)0
