lol I once owned a yuky brown Marina Estate and it was "in a state" I wonder if I can find one of them for him ;-)

Not a Marina, but here's one that would be worth getting a quote on. Will be tax exempt come next April as an added bonus ;)

    Thanks all

We make sure we give full details when applying for new quotes hence the £8k, a little bike may be an option for him to consider but he usually either has a works van for work or is picked up so the basics are covered.

Austin looks great and gives him a reg for quotes, also found this for me http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C384228:D

Tax exempt next april? Are they changing the rules again?

It needs to have been built before 1st Jan 1973 to be tax exempt.

It was supposed to be a rolling 25 year thing, But they stopped that many years ago.

In the last budget they announced a one-time move to 1st Jan 1974 from next April. I think we're all meant to believe that if we vote for them again they might just reinstate the rolling exemption !

As for that Anglia, wayyy too much street cred for a "learn your lesson" car :rotfl:

Although as the years pass and he gets older the premiums should come down and the offence will be "spent", however the passing of the years won't help as far as diminishing the impact of having his insurance cancelled.

That will blight him for evermore (and will ultimately cost him far more than the court did).

A cancelled policy on your record has to be declared for ever, and means he cannot get off the peg policies or use online comparison sites etc. He will need to use specialist brokers who deal with companies prepared to take on "difficult" cases like this.

Why did his insurer cancel the policy, I'd certainly be looking to see if that can be overturned

Have you considered trying for insurance that provides the little black box? It's a GPS system that monitors speed, acceleration, braking and can also impose curfews on when the car can be driven and if any of the limits are exceeded within a one month period a fine is levied upon them. It reduced my son's premium by almost £2k.

Does being banned mean he has to take his test again since he hasn't had his licence for 2 years?
