Work experience at jobcentre offer

Hi.
I've been unemployed for only a few weeks after being made redundant after 5 years, and have been offered "work experience" at a jobcentre.
On the Gov website it says if you're under 24 they may offer you work experience. I'm almost 30, have just come out of long-term employement so really don't know why they're offering me it. I'm over-age and don't consider the role suitable and think its a complete joke I'm being offered it when there's probably longer-term unemployed suitable doing nothing.
I think that having "work experience" will damage a CV that, until now, has only had long-term employment history on.
Can I turn it down without it effecting my JSA?
Thanks

The longer term unemployed and yes including people over the age of 30 are on the wonderful Work Programmechocofenix wrote: »I'm over-age and don't consider the role suitable and think its a complete joke I'm being offered it when there's probably longer-term unemployed suitable doing nothing. We’ve had to remove your signature. Hi
Thanks for your replies
Its not the work program, its work experience specifically - hence the question on being over 24. i have been told it is at the jobcentre.
I have been out of work for just over 3 weeks after being in work for long term so how will this help?0 -
We have no idea as we have no idea what the work will be - do you?chocofenix wrote: »Hi

Count yourself lucky to not be on the work programme yet as after being in work for over 20 years and never out of work that is pointless like most things the DWP come up with
You however can refuse to do it but you will have to sign offWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
So, even though its not the work program and they offer me an unsuitable job, 3 weeks - not 6 months or whatever - after losing one that i and they want me to get a new one in a similar role but if i turn down this unsuitable i lose my right to money i've paid in over the past 10+ years. No wonder theres less people "claiming benefit" - they've all lost it because of unsuitable offers.0

Why can you not do the work experience? Give one valid reason as to why it is an unreasonable request in order to receive benefits.0
