Work experience at jobcentre offer

You keep going on about people turning down jobs but fail to acknowledge the fact that people are begging for interviews at NMW only to be told you are over qualified and we will not interview you.
I get it, woe you.
I said people shouldn't be allowed to turn down any jobs when they are receiving job seekers allowance. I made no comment on those who never got the opportunity to turn work down.0 -
I see how you have changed tack, good try, still failing.
All of those things relate to getting a job offer, my statement relates to whether to accept or refuse a job offer.
May jobs will take on workers knowing full well they will look for a better job.
I've not changed track, people should still be allowed to search for positions in their chosen profession when they're first made unemployed.
Whereas you seem to think it's acceptable for somebody who is highly qualified (even in medicine!) to undertake work experience in something non-related such as a job centre, as soon as they're made unemployed, even if it damages their chances of getting back into their old profession.
Clearly your only motivation is out of pure spite, that if you've suffered (Which I'm guessing is the case) other should suffer too.0 -
When a person makes a claim if they have been made redundant from a profession and that profession is still in demand they can place a permitted period or wage restriction on their agreement for 13 weeks, after 13 weeks they have to prove that they still have reasonable prospects of securing employment at that wage in that field and a decision maker can decide to allow them a further 13 weeks. But after said 13 weeks or possibly 26 they have to be prepared to accept any work they can reasonable do.
This to me is fair as they are claiming JSA C so effectively their own contributions back (also remember if claiming C they get no free school meals, no dental or prescriptions) but anyone claiming an income based benefit must be prepared to take any work that they can reasonably do, nothing stopping then continuing to look.0 -

If people will take somebody on the assumption they will try to better themselves, why do you advocate that people should also lie about their qualifications, too (e.g. leaving off qualifications because you think they will prevent you getting a job is lying by omission). Exactly, it's just because you'd rather people suffer.0 -
How many people do you think who were earning over £30k will really be offered a job for £11k?
I was, took it and moved on but it meant I had an income for a few weeks. Now back to original income (nearly) after 4.5 years.
Also, there are plenty of people who turn down jobs that are not demeaning or outside their experience/qualifications.
I have first hand experience of people doing this even after they have applied for training which led to an interview and job offer, not mandated training but purely voluntary. It is frustrating when we have a finite number of places and they take one, knowing they have no intention of accepting any job offers.
Rest assured they were sanctioned for refusing a perfectly good job offer.0 -

No company would ever think you would stay and you would be a million times over qualified for it for sure.
I have argued with people begging them to interview me for NMW and I have been told 'we do not want you to leave in 6 mths and we have to recruit again' or 'we wont interview someone with your experience'
Its not that easy to do, go from a good paying job to NMW!!!
Innocent drinks turned me down last week as I was over qualified and this makes me very angryWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yep, got made redundant, signed on while looking and took 1st offer of NMW job doing very basic admin, filing to tide me over. Didnt stay, they didnt care, there was a queue of people wanting the job (better than nothing) but it was a job. Left as got offered something better and higher paid.0 -

Wish it hadnt had to happen but there were many people in the office in similar situations. It was accepted it was a stop gap for most people, turnover was high but it served it's purpose for us!0 -
yes but a company who do not want a high turnover will not interview people who they know will leave. I this in writing from many & they are making people unemployed.saintjammyswine wrote: »Wish it hadnt had to happen but there were many people in the office in similar situations.
