I'd ignore the list price, as it's rare anyone would pay the full list price for a Ford or Vauxhall (excluding GT).

I know why you might think the 1.4 petrol auto is going to be better than the new 1.6.

But unless there is an insurance consequence then the new model Fiesta is the better buy, the old one is fine, had one as a courtesy car and did the thick end of 100 miles in it, it returned 37mpg in my mixed use.

But it has an old school torque converter auto with 4 speeds.

The new one has the Powershift gearbox which means better economy, better performance and more gears, I think it will have six but could be wrong.

I suspect the road tax will be less aswell.

That is a decent enough price, which is rare as not many Fiestas are Titanium spec and even less Titanium Auto, I would think it is more likely to have been a one year contract hire car as I would have thought most rental cars would be mid range Zetec spec.

And I would have no issues buying a one yr old Fiesta with 19k on it, though check the car supermarkets for a similar vehicle just incase the price is at the higher end of retail.

Then use the car supermarket price to negotiate your purchase.

Though as I have already said I would be looking at the new model as it is improved and likely to be a better long term bet.

Should be easy to get £1000 maybe more off a new Ford.

It's above average miles, but I wouldn't let that put me off. I once bought a 12 month old car that had done 44,000 miles. Kept it for 3 years, it never missed a beat. But it did have a full service history when I bought it and was in very good condition...

    19,000 miles is nothing.

My current car did over 30,000 miles a year. Its got 160,000 miles on it now.

Not necessarily. I used to do 20,000 miles in a year going back and forward to work. 60 mile round trip everyday, 72 mile round trip to an air base once a month, and other trips out, shopping etc it all adds up.

    Thanks for your post.

I did a bit of reading up on the 1.6 powershift and reviews suggest that the car is quite slow to accelerate due to the powershift's dual clutch so I'm hoping the 1.4 would be better.

About 18 months ago, we had a Fiesta Titanium automatic as a courtesy car and it was fantastic - not sure what size the engine was though.

I must admit, what has drawn me to this car is it being a titanium auto spec and I think it would make it a bit more desirable when I come to sell the car. My current car is a bog standard 53 reg fiesta semi-auto but there's nothing 'interesting' about it. As you said, the price seems quite good for the spec.

I think I'm going to go for it. If I got £2k off a new 2013 1.6 powershift, I'd still be looking at around £14-£15k then the finance interest on top of that so I think saving £4-5k by buying an 11 month old car is a fairly good deal :)

My wife's Focus has the dual-clutch powershift box, and it's a peach, probably the best auto I have driven. It's the only autobox I know that can work out that you want to downshift going slowly down a hill, which is very handy in the hilly town where I live - almost as good as a manual for that. And it's not slow, either. Very crisp, in fact.

  • I drive a 2011 1.6 TDCi Fiesta Titanium covering around 20K a year.

It's never missed a beat and the build quality is truly superb.

Knowing what I do now, a 1 year old Fiesta with that mileage at the right price wouldn't scare me off.

For piece of mind I'm currently up to 40K miles and the car just gets better!

The mileage isn't that high, I've just hit 19,000 in my 1.2 Fiesta and that's only 13 months old - and I work from home most of the time!
