I think you're overthinking too much and basing too much on your assumptions.

An Asian boy, walking home from school with his three friends, threw my daughters pencil case into a tree, my daughter was with her three friends.
These are a group of children who walk home together all the time, the boys tease the girls, the girls tease the boys, there's a little bit of fancying going on, girls pull boys ties, boys throw pencil cases, all very flirtatious.
The fact that this boy threw my daughters pencil case into a tree doesn't mean that a 'pack of boys' is bullying her, it doesn't make it a racially motivated attack and it certainly doesn't mean that she's justified in taking a rounders bat to his head.
Totally agree, but doesn't this just prove the boys actions were not one of a friend having a playful prank pulled on him, but one of a boy who had just had enough.0 -
Thanks JoJo - thats helpful once again.
It was of the order of 20 feet which isn't really point blank range and I'm not convinced, as I have said before, that he actually intended to hurt her. For all I know he may not even have know it was loaded either but again thats total speculation. Perhaps he though it was nothing more than a toy in which case someone else in his household has some serious explaining to do. Perhaps he know all along what it was and that it was loaded and it was taken to protect himself. On the other hand perhaps also it was taken with the sheer intention of causing damage to somebody or something irrespective of anything else apart from sheer devilment. I'm not suggesting he is a Michael Ryan (Hungerford) case either for one minute btw.
The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. We have to find it and we will.

Not at all no. It sounds like a 13yo boy who thought bringing a BB gun out with him would be funny and make him look hard.
With such little information it's astounding just how many people on this thread have painted the boy who illegally took a firearm into the street as the victim and the girl he shot in the face as a bully.
Whether this is projecting from their own unhappy childhoods or from sheer ignorance of teenage behavious I don't know.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Whilst this is an extremely useful debate now that the extremists have withdrawn (probably only temporrily unfortunately) I fear we may be getting perilously close to pigeon-holing both of them here which IMO would be quite wrong for both their sakes and that would be a trap I would be anxious to avoid. Yes I am just as concerned for his current and future welfare as my daughter's by the way.
Thanks all (except one) for your contributions this morning. I'll return again this evening.
Cheers

The information is-
Ops daughter took his scooter twice without his permission.
Boy pulled out gun.
Ops daughter told him he would make a good terrorist.
Boy shot gun.
So how do you know he was trying to look big. How do you know he wasn't terrified of the ops daughter ?
You don't. But one thing is clear. The ops daughter caused this action by her own actions. Hopefully she will now think twice before she purposely provokes someone again.
And no I don't think pulling a gun is Ok. But if he was the kind of kid who normally caused trouble I doubt the girl would have taken his property in the first place.0 -

Yes we can play the 'but how do we know' game all day.

That's absurd.
How do you know that they weren't playing a whole game of dares and the taking of the scooter just happened to be part of it?
How do you know that the group of girls and the group of boys weren't laughing together and the boy didn't mean to hit her?
Also, apparently the boy didn't hear the terrorist comment - not that that makes it particularly okay but it means your chain of events is not quite correct.
IMO, the OP is doing the right thing by letter the school investigate and getting the full picture because at the moment none of us know what happened so asumptions of fear and of bravado are both equally as valid. My Debt Free Diary

We don't. If the op didn't want his daughters actions questioned , he should not have posted on a discussion forum.0 -
Was just on my way to work but feel I should respond to this (my comments in red)Own_My_Own wrote: »The information is-

Boy pulled out gun. Correct
Ops daughter told him he would make a good terrorist. Turns out to be incorrect as investigated by school - I posted about this yesterday. Not one of the boys heard this it was within the girls Group only.
Boy shot gun. Correct.
So how do you know he was trying to look big. How do you know he wasn't terrified of the ops daughter ? How do we know that the taking of the scooter wasn't in response to some provocation in the oipposite direction.
You don't. But one thing is clear. The ops daughter caused this action by her own actions. No it is not clear at all.
Hopefully she will now think twice before she purposely provokes someone again. Concur. And no I don't think pulling a gun is Ok. But if he was the kind of kid who normally caused trouble I doubt the girl would have taken his property in the first place.
As a matter of interest what stopped me leaving when I had intended to was a telephone call from the Safeguarding Team at the hospital. They have questioned me about the action that is being taken and have said as a result of me telling that the action is entirely proportionate and are pleased that we are taking care of the welfare of both children involved. Now I am off.
