debit card chargeback for counterfeit goods?

Right, I'll keep this really simple. I ordered some stuff of a website called DHGate believing it was real. I have not been kicked off ebay and am thousands of pounds down. It was all ordered on my visa debit card. Halifax.
I have evidence from the real company saying this stuff is fake. I cannot do anything with it, as I would be risking going to prison. I have submitted a claim to Halifax but they seem to be dragging their feet and keep telling me to wait for a letter. I sent of my evidence 3 weeks ago recorded!
What are my chances of getting my money back? How long does this usually take? Will I be expected to pay to send all this illegal crap back to China?
Thanks

If they ask/tell you to return them to china inform them it's illegal under uk rules to export counterfeit goods.
They are probably researching the issue, be patient these thing do take some time.0 -

Thanks - thats a relief. I am currently completely broke because of this. For the record I am down around 10 grand. I can't afford to fix my car, and I can barely sleep at night.
I literally feel to stupid. If you saw these copies you would not believe it. But if you scan the barcode it comes up as a different product!
I actually am considering rejoining the army. Just to get away from the worry of not knowing how I am going to pay my bills, and having a steady life.0 -
Plenty info around about them.

10k seems a lot, did you buy designer stuff or plan to easel or something?0 -

No - I don't want to go into the details incase Halifax or DHGate read this. But we used a certain type of case when I was in the army for our phones.
I left, and wanted to buy one for my phone. However I found them very expensive and found I could order them cheap on this website if you ordered them in bulk... I wasn't blessed with brains sadly. And they looked really legit.
So I ended up getting them for my mates as well. Which I now feel terrible about. Because I have basically facilitated scamming them.
I started selling them on eBay and was doing really well. Top Rated Seller, Limited Company... the lot. However I still ordered through my personal debit card. And then it all got shut down. I now have two rooms full of cases which I don't know what to do with...
I am literally !!!!!!.0 -
Oh my. Btw easel = resell damn iOS auto correct.
Hmmm, tricky one, this would mean you have ordered off them multiple times and only since being rumbled for them not being legit you now want to claim. Are you claiming for a single transaction or multiples?
Might need dalesrider's cc banking expertise here...0 -

I am claiming for multiple orders. As there were different products, or atleast they are variations of a product. It's all rather complicated.
However now looking into it, I cannot see how they can refuse the claim. I can prove factually that the product is counterfeit, I cannot legally return the goods. Therefore what more can I do...
If anyone with more knowledge want's to PM me, I shall provide you with more detailed information.
Thanks for all the help.0 -
The difficulty you have is you're claiming for multiple orders. So this isn't a one off event or mistake, it's only because you we're shut down that you are now claiming.
They could refuse, they are not there just to bail you out when things turn sour unfortunately.
Like I say dalesrider's a member here who works in this area, they'll be along to advise specifics in due course0 -

I honestly did not know the items were counterfeit before I was reported on ebay. I then went straight away to the manufacture and got the items checked.
But I do get what you are saying. This is a horrible state of affairs.0 -
Oh for sure it is, although ott0r/gruffin (purposely spelt incorrectly lol!) stuff is never going to be genuine for a china seller direct - especially at 8-10$ a piece.
I assume you aren't claiming for goods you have received payment for and only those orders you currently have in your home? Also how you paid doesn't change he fact this was a business to business transaction....
It is a pretty big mess you're right....0 -

You are correct. Only for the stuff which I have left. I'm starting to think I might need to get some legal advice in regards to this.0
