They havnt actually said theyre changing the contracts just that if the figures are not good enough on Friday then they will need to work Saturday to improve them. Isnt this just overtime???
Yes it is just overtime - and within the contract of employment.
If the figures are not good enough on Friday, they will be expected to work over-time on Saturday.
This is NOT what you led us to understand earlier, which is that the company is making a permanent change to everyone's contracts from a 5 day week to a 6 day week, with no additional pay.
We have in fact come full circle.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Sounds like B2B sales are their customers even open on Saturday?0

I see what you mean but they are only saying that about the figures to say the ball is in the employees courts. The figures will never ever be what the company expect because they are still expecting the same figures, actually better figures than 10 years ago when people needed what they provide. By saying that they need to work Saturday if the figures are not good enough they are expecting everyone to work Saturdays to make the figures better. I havnt misled you at all, I have just kept it clear rather than muddy the waters with the above information. I never said they were actually changing the contracts just that they expected people to work the extra hours. By changing the contracts is that not giving people a choice to accept the new terms or leave? They havnt offered a new contract but have laid down their expectations of employees working Saturdays. There will be no additional pay or time off.0 -

Sorry, ive never heard of B2B0 -
Would it be so bad to work a Saturday? Has he tried discussing this with his managers? A union would be able to advise he'd best join. Maybe if he had to work a Saturday without extra pay he will get time off during the week to compensate.0

OK he will NOT get extra pay or time off for working Saturday. I really cant say that any more and get a different answer.
Yes it would be so bad to his family and child because he barely sees him as it is. Perhaps you can tell me how I explain to an 8 year old whos whole world is his father why he cant take him anywhere or play with him on Saturday aswell as the rest of the working week.0 -
Why would you explain to the child? Is it yours?OK he will NOT get extra pay or time off for working Saturday. I really cant say that any more and get a different answer.

Yes its my child too. Whether you saw your dad or not is nothing to do with this situation. Our jobs were planned specifically so we could be there for our child, that was our choice. Is it really so bad to want to be there and bring him up ourselves? Why are we even being made to feel its wrong to want to be a family who spend their weekends together? We earn our money and we dont claim benefits other that the child benefit everyone gets. We work the hours we need to to survive and if we needed to work more to earn more to live we would but we dont so why should we?
I asked for advice on a work issue and somehow this has turned round to people questioning my family life. If people chose to work weekends thats fine, its not wrong for them but its not what we want. I wish id never bothered asking now because some people just cant keep the personal stuff out of it. I wanted facts, not to justify our life choices.

The facts are they can refuse end of but you never gave all the real story to begin with anyway............it is now an overtime issue not a change from 5 days to 6 days. We’ve had to remove your signature. B2B is business to business so selling but not to the general public, most buyers in this situation would be working Mon to Fri so pointless having them in on a Saturday as no-one to sell to.0
