Virgin Media

I have been a customer of Virgin Media for 13 years, I have never downgraded my package only upgraded to line their pockets further. Recently I've realised that it's just too expensive. I rang to give 30 days notice & they told me it would cost me £218.40 to end my contract early as I moved house one year ago & they tied me into an 18 month contract. I have paid them every month for the last 13 years & it has infuriated me that they are going to charge this for cancelling my subcription. Any advice to take on Virgin Media?

A home move always starts you onto a new minimum term, so you are breaking your contract and they will charge an ETC accordingly.

You moved, they installed, you agreed to a new minimum term for that new provision. 13 years subscribed makes no difference...

Not sure why you feel entitled to leave for free?

Might not be what you want to hear, but factually correct.

I know the facts I'm questioning the amount they are charging after being a customer for 13 years!! I have never said I want to leave for free or give the 30 days notice!

You have a contractual obligation to fulfill. If that includes a cancellation fee based on the remaining term of your contract, that it what you pay.

If you are leaving due to poor service, perhaps you could give them details of the problems and ask that they waive some of all of the fee, but they are not under obligation to do so, particularly if you haven't complained before.

Why are you actually leaving? Could you not approach them politely about reducing your contract for financial reasons rather than cancelling altogether?

Being a customer for 13 years has no bearing on this whatsoever. Get past that, because it counts for very little when you are trying to stop being a customer.

The ETC charged per month is clearly outlined on the VM website in the FAQ's/T&C's, so you can easily check if the amount you were quoted is correct. The length of prior service is simply not relevant.

I'm leaving because I'm paying £110+ a month and feel it's too expensive, also I have complained numerous times about our internet connection as we constantly lose connection. the last time my husband rang about this they suggested putting us on a higher internet speed charged us £13 for the privillage & it is still no better. I'm not happy with the service they are providing & their customer service is disgraceful. I have e-mailed them a number of times to complain & never get a response, when you ring them you get someone who can barely understand english & just repeat the script they are reading.
