free boiler on benefits

Surely a new kitchen is considerably more than a new boiler? No free lunch, and no free laptop

It's a Ravenheat LS80, and it's the divertor valve microswitch thats bust. Can live with that, just means CH & HW both come on, rather than one or the other.
If you are on benefits (still?) then you will probably find that you can have ANOTHER free boiler. Look for Energy Company Obligation scheme, there are plenty of companies promoting it.0 -

As I stated, this was MANY years ago, and have been in full employment since. But until recently, however my partner worked inbetween, just to clarify your prejudices.
It seems that various companies are using the tag line of a new energy scheme, to take advantage of consumers, and maybe rip off the Government, because they have seen what has passed with Warmfront?
EcoDave - My Parents weren't unemployed either; they are pensioners, so I don't understand the reference you make to who or why people should be allowed to access this grant?0 -

Do you mean like this scheme from B&Q for a free boiler for some?

Yes, they may be calling it their "feel the benefit scheme" but its actually under the Energy Company Obligation. B&Q probably want you to think that they are a lovely organisation who are concerned at the poors well being, but really they are piggy backing on the governments scheme, and we all pay for it in higher fuel prices.0 -

Ratboy - my comment was supposed to be tongue in cheek, perhaps it needed a smiley to convey that though, so my apologies. I don't care whether you get the benefit of this scheme as well as previous ones. Boilers don't last forever, and if you remain eligible then good luck to you. The scheme is designed to offer "affordable warmth" to the worse off in society and I am all for that.0 -

Everyone else has to pay for all these "free" boilers because the costs are passed onto all consumers as higher fuel bills.
In relation to people on low incomes, there is some argument for doing this.
However many of the beneficiaries seem to be wealthy landlords.
As long as a tenant (often on a short-term let) qualifies for a "free" boiler, they can get one installed, thereby saving the landlord from having to pay for a new one.
Why are we all subsidising landlords in this way?0 -

People that qualify, on low incomes, are justified in receiving this, I believe, but landlords, as you state seem to be taking the wee, if the property is owned by a landlord, then the occuants can't claim for a boiler..that's the landlords responsibility. And he doesn't have a claim. So there must be some tomfoolery going on, if that's the case?
I also agree that landlords charge high rents, to get more from DSS; but the case is is that there is a ceiling, where the landlord, and tenant have an 'agreement', so my first flat was £100 a week, but landlord said £50, cashback from the dole. I don't understand how that worked!!!!!! But clearly still going on!0 -
But that would once again force low income people out of affordable heat.if the property is owned by a landlord, then the occuants can't claim for a boiler..that's the landlords responsibility.
It is easy to say 'That's the landlords responsability', but at the end of the day it will be the tennant that suffers. AFAIK, the landlords responsability ends at making sure there is some kind of heating system, they are not responsible for making sure it is 1) Efficient, and 2) Affordable for the tennant.
I don't agree that landlords should benefit from these schemes, but in most cases, the only way a tennant can get a landlord to make any kind of improvement, is by showing that it will benefit them in some way in the future.
My landlord is very reasonable and we have a good relationship, but even I would struggle to get any kind of major improvement done for my benefit only.0
