                    Could be fun!
Not sure how it happened, neither is dd but thats not unusual lol
Anyway popped up to out of hours docs because dd couldn't bear weight on one foot, they diagnosed a sprain and was told rest and painkillers.
Dd can hop around the flat ok but im not sure what to do for school on monday. It takes about 15mins at a good pace and I doubt dd will hop all that way without difficulty, she struggled doing 20 yards at the hospital!
Then she has to spend the day at school, up and down stairs
I asked at the hospital about crutches but id have to go again on monday, then get seen at a and e then go to paeds to get fitted for small crutches as they don't do that at weekends.
And of course its sats week, dd's more looking forward to the free hot chocolate and snacks than worrying about the tests lol but all the same it is kind of important and had it been a normal week and she still couldnt walk by monday then id take her up then to get her sorted.
How long does it take a sprain to heal for children and is it normal practice to allow kids to just cope by hopping about til it feels better?
I guess the plan is to see how it goes, I might try wheeling her to school on my bike, at least she wont be knackered before she starts!

I sprained my ankle at 11 and was left to get on with it. It was black/blue! I remember it being too painful to put in a shoe, my mum refusing to write a note for school and being made to "do" PE... I promptly feinted and was sent home :rotfl:
Anyways, pain lasted c.1wk before I was ok as long as wearing decent shoes and not running.
My sister did similar as an adult and again wasn't given crutches in a&e, hers took around a week before she could walk properly.
I recommend paracetol and ibuprofen on the recommended doses/intervals, ankle up and ice on it. All that helped me get the swelling down and hobbling bearable. If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0

my DD did something similar about 10 days before a dance exam - kids a & e said to keep it elevated when she was home, put a bag of frozen peas on it if she was in pain, and take kids paracetamol. Within a couple of days she was much improved, and within a week it was like nothing had ever happened to her.
It took me loads longer to get over my sprained ankle - i guess young bones and muscles bounce back much better.0

Use the RICE method and also paracetamol and ibuprofen throughout the day tomorrow, there is a very good chance she will be able to manage fine on Monday. Taxi to school?0

If she still can't walk by Monday phone school and ask if her teacher can bring her SAT's papers home to her.
If they can, all well and good, if they can't she has 5 days in which to take them, during which time she cannot contact anyone in her year.
And really, SAT's aren't that important (but that's a whole other thread)Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

AFAIK it's not possible for SATs papers to be taken at home.
I think you should try as hard as you can to get her there for Monday's tests even if it means a taxi. School will be accommodating I'm sure and let her come home after the tests if she's really not up to staying.
I have experience of this and have known children to sit with a 'sick bowl' during the tests and had teachers collecting children by car when transport has been a problem.
SATs may not be vitally important for individual children (secondary schools can use teacher assessment to put them in relevant groups) but they are hugely important for Primary schools. If a school has 30 children in a year group and one is absent then results can go down by about 3% and that could mean school suffering hugely with government inspectors. When a school has worked with a child for up to 7 years that is potentially so unfair.
Hopefully your DD will be much fitter by Monday. My advice would be to get there there any way you can then talk to the school about arrangements for Tuesday.0

Presumably only if that child is reasonably intelligent. If they're a thicky won't the results go up?
