THANKS and posting

This is not particularly related to Bankruptcy, so I apologise, but twice recently I have been about to click someone's 'Thanks' button, and then noticed a little note to the left, one said 'hit the Thanks' and the other indicated people couldn't be bothered and essentially 'Thanks but no thanks'.
Both of these notes really put me off. I thank people quite a lot and found these notes really rude:confused: am I mad?
Anyone else find themselves bizarrely obliged to not thank or is it just me:eek:

Sorry shellsuit, twice in the last 12 hours I have come across it on this boards, the posts are just below, and I found my finger just wouldn't thank them.

Sorry I probably sound like a right old cow if you've never seen it!

I meant people put in their signature little notes about people not bothering to 'Thank' and 'Hit the Thanks' and for some bizarre reason it really puts me off and I want to say to them, I was about to Thanks you and now I don't won't to!!!!

Obviously my own personal trauma (I don't have enough so I am now inventing them)

Ahh, part of someones sig you mean, not an actual button or note from MSE?

I don't like to thank people who ask for thanks....even if I want to thank them.

It's not a case of don't ask, don't get....it's polite to let people make their own minds up :)

is it so wrong to make people feel good about themselves if they've been helpful?

I know what you mean about people asking for thanks in their signature - it puts me off thanking them too. It gives the impression that they just want to up the statistic by there username and aren't really interested in being a useful participant in the forum.

If people thank me, then I want them to do it because they've found something I've said to be helpful - not because I've asked them to!! Just as in real life I guess!!
