good job you didn't meantion Danfoss RasC or i might have thought you worked for them & it was spam, oops i just did ;)

they will tell you anything won't they, adding too much inhibitor can & will cause problems as it starts to foam.

Bulldog valves are cheap & nasty

No they are not. A while ago on here I was told they are decent when I posted about having them fitted.they have a good review here.

    http://www.discountedheating.co.uk/shop/acatalog/Pegler_Bulldog_Angle_Thermostatic_Radiator_Valve_and_Ls_Valve_Pack_15mm_PEG7TVLVP.html

When the TRVs were fitted initially all rads were working perfectly, no cold spots so there was no air in the system. Now weeks on it has got this bad. Surely if he had let air in the system when fitting them it would have been bad from day one.

Pegler has been around for many years making plumbing accessories. They are known for their radiator valves. The Bulldog range is the cheaper end and may be produced exclusively for larger plumber's merchants.

I wasn't saying the Bulldog TRVs were necessarily good. The old standard Pegler radiators valves were really reliable.

Some of the plumbing accessories they make are still reliable. But with all the cost cutting and market competition, the quality of some of the common parts has dropped.

If they are crap then why are they stocked in most plumbers merchants ? I think your opinion is somewhat coloured.

Bulldog is Plumb Centers own brand, made by Pegler for them.

I've had no problems to date with them

most plumbers merchants stocked ideal icos & isar boilers & most customers can't wait til they can afford to rip them out because they are always breaking down,

why on earth do you think my view is coloured ? i don't work for a trv manu, i get no special kickback if i say another manu's trv's are crap, however i am in customers houses every day & therefore i know things that are good & things that aren't, things that work & things that cause problems, take WB boilers their marketing is so good that nearly every customer thinks they are the best boiler you could ever wish for, however speak to someone that has to service & repair them (not someone that just installs them & nothing else) & you will get a very different view.

so you would rather rely on some feed back from a few people that have bought them for their own houses or someone that fits hundreds of trv's over the course of a year, it doesn't matter to me if you have them in your own house all i know is i wouldn't have them in my house, but of course the fact that your noise stops when you touch them doesn't tell you anything does it ;)

  • I'm not arguing whether they are good or bad as I have little or no history with them but, a plumbers merchants will stock anything if they get enough kick back or it increases foot fall through the door.
The merchants I use stock some really good manufacturers but they also stock what maybe seen as crap but people buy them according to their budget or preference.
I love WB but Scrgi hates them, I hate Alpha, Biasi, Ferroli, Ravenheat, Ideal and Vaillant (good boiler, crap aftersales IMO) but there are loads of fitters who will disagree with me.
Sometimes what you term as "coloured" is either experience or word of mouth.
Either way get that plumber back.

My experience has been up to now bad with a few different people who never seem to understand my system.

Do you have an unusual system?

What is the make and model of boiler?

Is it fitted to a house a flat or a bungalow?

Do you have a room thermostat fitted?

If a flat or bungalow, is the boiler the high point of the system?

Fitting new valves will not cause air in the system in themselves . The draining and venting of the system will.

Bulldog... if they are the same as PTS own name 'budget' valves then, no, I wouldn't consider them very good.

I changed a PTS one last winter as it leaked from the spindle at only 2 years old.

The old system ran on a Vulcan continental which was ancient. We inherited it when we moved into this semi Victorian house. We then had a plumber fit a combi 2 years ago a Heatline c24. Running 2 downstairs rads and 2 upstairs and a heated tow rail in bathroom. A few weeks ago just before the TRVs were put on, he fitted a small rad in the kitchen where the boiler is.
