Dry Food Container

So I have saved my money and going to buy Eden Dog Dry Food.
She likes it which is a miracle and due to medical issues such as epilepsy its one of the best out there for her as contains no sage or rosemary.

However it is cheaper and easier in long run to order 15kg bag. However with her being a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and on a diet she will only be eating 100g a day if that as she has treats and snacks throughout day. I don't want to feed her dry all the time so probs be 4/5 days a week and other days either raw with Natures Instinct or some meat and veg.

So basically a 15kg will last almost 10 months or more.

The shelf life is usually long like a year I been told but be best to contain the food to keep it fresh.

No worries of mice or other pets getting into bag. Will keep the food in the study where our pets don't go in.
However will it still remain fresh just in bag or do I need a container?

I can't afford £20-£30 for a container was hoping for something less than £10 :S

Anyone got a 15kg container for less than £10 or no off a moneysaving tip?

I use a plastic storage box which I brought for around £7.00, it has a lid and seems to keep the food in good condition. It isn't advertised as a food box but does the job. Have a look in B&M or wilkos for ideas.
    Hopeful optimistic.

Not all plastic is suitable to store food products so be a bit careful there.

Have a look at those ones they are £5.99 for the smaller and £9.99 for the bigger:

they are available from Zooplus http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dog_bowls_feeders/food_storage/13680

I have an expensive one (got on sale) so no point reccomending but... had it for few years, very strong and practical, holds 20kg of food but costs almost £30.00:

    They do different sizes:

  • I've got a huge E*ukanuba storage tub that takes a 15kg sack of dry food - it was a freebie;) from my local pet shop so worth asking ..... (they're not so keen to give stuff away these days but you may get something cheap).

For the cats' dry (I do the same as you and buy 10kg sacks as it's a lot cheaper and these last 5 months) - I have storage tubs from £stretcher, I think the 3 cost me £5 :money:so have a look there & at the other "cheap" shops

I don't have a local pet shop around by mine well one that I would visit anyway (ones local are the dodgy kind selling kittens and puppies in cages). Don't drive either :S

Was hoping to pick something up at local Asda or Homebargains is like cereal containers ok as they airtight?

Those ones from zooplus aren't airtight are they? Am not worried about pests or so its more about keeping it fresh so thats why would need airtight.

I seen the one from pets at home around am desperate to have it but can barely afford the dry food nevermind that on top
  • The ones I got from £stretcher are air-tight .....

Thats good just didn't look airtight being fabric. I may get the one from zooplus just postage brings it up higher so have to wait till order cat food *only just got a load from zooplus*.

I don't have a poundstretcher that near as one in city centre shut down. Have a wilkos and other poundstores so could try them.

Do you store the bag of food in the container or just the dry food emptied out of bag?

I use the black zooplus sacks above to store both my dog and cat kibble and they are brilliant! Keep the food fresh for months (I put the 15kg bags straight into them along with a scoop).
One thing I would say though is if you have any mice lurking they are no match and quite easy for them to gnaw through ......as I found out! Despite having 4 (obviously fat, lazy, overfed) cats!

Great choice Eden! got my first 15kg bag yesterday and 4 cats and 1dog were trying to burrow through the conservatory door to get to it when it was delivered. Plate is down for seconds and no leftovers! Can't wait til their cat version is launched in June!

Don't follow in my footsteps, I walk into walls:smileyhea When in doubt .............mumble.
I may look busy, but I'm just confused.:T I smile because i have no idea what's going on.:rotfl:
