ive bin a dontdumpthat member for 8 months now and really do find the site not only useful but so friendly . ive bin on freecycle and to tellthe truth i couldnt get on with it i found it so unorganised and the people often didnt reply to my emails very rude i must say on ddt even if the item has gone the people tend to email you and say sorry item gone also ive met some nice people who i stay in contact with through the site we have a laugh and all seem to get on i must say ive had lots of stuff of the site and given away some stuff i find it very fair as even if you not sat on pc all day waiting for stuff to be offered the people on the site tend to give to those who havnt had stuff for a while or maybe need it more than another person only this week a women advertised toys and made it a rule only one person per toy which gave everyone a fair chance and some useful toys you dont see that on the other sites as usually its one person seems to get everything and seems to be within seconds of it being listed makes you wonder what they want will lots of stuff is it genuine need or genuine greed . i will be sticking with ddt as its become and will stay a fair and enjoyable site

MoneySavingExpert has been mentioned/linked often on DDT, now DDT members know this thread is on here, they are posting here telling about DDT, no-one is making anything up though. I have been a member here before, but after a dead HD, I lost my old account details and havent visited since last year, so some ppl posting here may look like new members (and some even may be), BUT your forum is getting new members out of this :)

PS if you want to see a forum that is working and with a good membership, check out Lincoln, some other forums are small ATM but we are a work in progress (and some very new), but like all things with dedication im sure we will get there!

    Thanx

Yes and I'm glad I'm helping promote this site! It is fun, friendly, and FREE! Now how many sites can you go to and say that? We are not here to decry Freecycle but as the thread states, show "The alternative to Freecycle". If there are any other alternatives out there I'm sure the moderators of this forum would welcome them being mentioned. As I stated earlier, I am a member of the Lincoln DontDumpThat Forum. I am not being paid by anyone to speak about it. Anything I have said is from MY personal experience. The idea behind it is simple................ stop useful stuff going to landfill. Just because we live in a throwaway society, it doesn't mean that we have to follow. Just two weeks ago, I was given a computer for my daughter by a fellow member. She said that it was just sat in a corner gathering dust and that the last time she looked at it, there was only the problem that it was running too slow. I took it, cleaned it up, put in some more RAM, plugged it in and now my daughter has a perfectly good computer to go on the net with, chat to her friends, research for and type up her homeworks, and all for the cost of a phonecall! Now isn't that a far better thing to happen than it being dumped, shipped off to god knows where and adding to the environmental damage that stripping it for precious metals involves? This is just one example and my personal one at that. I could go on and preach about it and tell everyone about how we helped a family that lost everything just before Xmas last year. Or say about how we are setting up a fund for those in desperate need. If spouting off about a good thing makes me bad then shoot me! I know I am happy with what I am doing, and would like to see the idea spread further afield. That's all.

    with an alternative.

The DDT forum in my local area is relatively quiet compared to Freecycle but the people that do post stuff seem friendly enough.

As someone who has fallen out big time with Freecycle today - I'm glad this thread is here! Not yet checked it out - but will do so.

  • Some of us just read what is here, and don't usually post! You get lots of mentions and links from DDT. I don't complain when I get emails from the moneysaving expert.

I have been a member of Don'tDumpThat from early on, it is good and helpful and nobody here need read about it if they don't want to. I am just glad it is doing so well.
