Can anyone help? I experienced a 17 hour delay on the way home from a holiday in 2008. The trip was over 4000 km and we were told it was because the pilot flew too many hours.
Has anyone experienced similar circumstances??
Thanks

Lots of folk - usually after a tecnical delay has put the crew over their time. This is an operational issue and most unlikely to be accepted as an extraordinary circumstance, imho.0 -
So you think I have good grounds for a claim being accepted then?0

I think so, but I'm not the judge. You have to read the law and make your own judgement/take advice (other than from some random person pretending to be a French enlightenment military engineer).
Ha ha well I have an aunt who works for another airline and she thought it was a legitimate claim but each airline is different. I actually work in the law but feel the Regulations can be interpreted differently.0 -

Not really if I have a legitimate claim. The delay caused me to lose a days money and why should I not seek compensation if its due to me??0 -

Yes if you have a legitimate claim of course you should be compensated if you lost money due to it, but it should have been done at the time. It is going to harder now as your employer might not be happy looking that far back into records to prove your loss of earnings.0 -

I tried to claim via my insurance at the time and received a minimal compensation of £25. I'm now making a claim under the new EU Regulations direct from the airline to which I do not have to provide any information from my employer and simply provide the flight details and when I travelled, which I have direct to First Choice. My question to the forum was (a) whether anyone was given this reason and their claim accepted and (b) what sort of compensation was received for a delay of more than 12 hours. The airline holds all information it needs to consider my claim0 -
First Choice as an airline no longer exists, any claim against First Choice who are now just a travel agent may well be wasting your time.
A quick Google will show you which existing airline First Choice (the airline) merged with, it is there where your claim should go0 -

Oh really? The holiday was booked by Thomson but the flights provided my First Choice. I've been in touch with FC and they have said my claim is in the process of being assessed. Surely they should have told me if they were no longer accepting claims?0
