I've been looking at getting a new contract, but I've decided to stay with my £10 a month Tesco contract, which has 5 months left to run, so I need to buy a phone.

I've been looking at the

Samsung s3 at asda direct for £319
or
Samsung s3 mini at asda direct for £199
or the
lg nexus 4 16gig for £279

I currently have a Samsung s it's old dated and slow, and I want to treat myself.

The Samsung mini seems to be the same size as the phone I have now, and not to bad,
or would I get used to the Samsung 3 or is it a bit big for a phone.

decisions decisions

thanks

I got the S3 last October. It seems big at first, but you soon get used to it - and to be honest, going back to using a smaller phone now seems very odd. The S3 is a very good phone.
The Nexus also looks to be a very good phone, and I very nearly bought one earlier this year, with a view to selling the S3. I like new phones though - so that was purely by choice! The Nexus is a lot of phone for the money. I wouldn't personally consider the S3 mini to be in the same league.
    My choice would be :
    1 S3
    2 Nexus

I just got a Nexus 4 and it's great. Really fast and slick.

Nexus is believed to be a better value for money than S3:

The main disadvantage is lack of SD card.

S3 Miny is believed to be poor value for money and overpriced just because of 'S3' in the name. In terms of specifications it very remotely reminds the real S3.

I've got the S3 just now and tbh I find it a bit big - it doesn't fit in my jeans pocket, some jacket pockets etc. I decided on the S3 over the mini because it is a better phone but I'm now considering changing it for the mini as I don't find any great benefit in the larger screen (in fact I find the screen a bit big for my small hands) and it does annoy me having to carry it in my hand when I don't have anywhere else big enough to put it. I'm a small female though, most people will be bigger than me and not have the same issues!

No experience of the Nexus, the lack of expandable storage and non-removeable battery put me off.

@lottie, can you just take your old sim out of your phone and put it in the sim free phone?

I was originally looking at the lg, but some people put me off with the fact that there is no extra memory slot, I don't have a lot of apps on this phone, I don't play many games on, I've sky news, f/b, twitter and the kindle app.

would the memory on it be enough?

When I got my S3, I went out and bought a 32GB SD card, thinking that I could install my apps on that. This turns out not to be the case. I can only really store music and videos etc. on the SD card.
Even with all the apps that I have on my phone (16GB internal), I still have a good 8GB left.
You're down to personal choice again.

Yes, but be aware it takes a micro sim, so you will need to cut your old on, or request a new one form your network provider.

16gb will be plenty if you don't want to store a load of music or videos on your phone.

I'd have thought so. I opted for the 16GByte version of the Nexus 7 over its smaller brother. The 32Gbyte offering wasn't around then. I now realise I could have saved a few quid and got by with the 8GByte version.

This is why I opted for the 8GByte version of the Nexus 4 over its larger sibling.

I tend not to carry around my whole photo and music collection and just put stuff on and take it off as and when needed.

Also, I don't plan to keep these devices for a long period. Maybe around eighteen months I guess, so I don't see them as a long-term investment.

One thing to note is that you don't get 8GBytes or 16GBytes of free memory. I think around 1.5GBytes is used by the devices themselves.

Very true, the S3 mini was a real con job by Samsung.

The older S2 is a better phone than the S3 mini, Samsung really took people for a ride with that release.
