if you google "subway footlong lawsuit".

This does not appear to be the first article on the subject.

I once got a 4in sub when I ordered the half size one. I did complain but it was like talking to a brick wall. The lady at the counter just gave me a blank stare and continued on with the next customer as if it just didn't matter. I was quite annoyed by her manner and posted an official complaint. Result - NOTHING! Never heard anything from them. Suffice it to say I've never been to that particular franchise again.

There are however other franchises around who are often quite generous with their portions and some very helpful staff who'll tell you all possible ways of saving few pennies through every deal around (NHS staff discounts for one - if you have a staff badge, flash it for 10% off at most Subway franchises).

Footlong is just marketing, any sensible person would know that bread does squeeze, it should be the weight of dough that counts. This is a stupid story and I can't believe it's even an article on MSE.

If they know the bread become shorter whilst baking they should make it that little longer to begin with.

I can't believe this has just featured on Watchdog. Has that programme completely run out of ideas? Do their researchers actually do any work, or do they just read MSE?

With Anne Robinson shock and horror about the story
  • This is a complete non story and this thread is daft. Whoever first reported it should be sent for a nice long rest so they can recover their sanity. The next time I go into a Subway I will not be taking my tape measure with me.

I would expect it to based on a british foot?
    is that 30.48cm?
I think the previous poster is on about whose foot- as in, Charlie's, Jim's, or Stephanie's. It's a play on foot: pod, the thing with toes, and foot: 12 inches, the thing we used to measure in.
