Nowadays all students can get student loans that cover their fees and maintenance. Students from poorer families also get maintenance grants and most universities offer bursaries to these students. My son (in his first year at uni) said that those from the poorest families end up with quite a bit more than those whose parents earn more. Students from middle earners lose out most (as usual), with parents less able to help to the same level that richer parents can do or to match the grants and bursaries and greater loans that the poorest get.

Of course student loans come with a repayment requirement that can be daunting, but really it is more a graduate tax.
    .

Sorry but if you are concerned you should go along to a University open day or evening where they explain about fees.

Those students from Families earning under a certain threshold get a grant up to around 4K a year. (THey all pay fees regardless at the same level - in a student loan).

For every £1 of Grant they take they lose 50p of their student loan. The levels vary by region too so this in London get more.

So technically, a poor student will get 50% more a year than one from a more wealthy background. It doesn't just cut off. It is means tested and you can get help all the way up to 45K. After looking at all the ins and outs, and the rates that student swill pay their loans back, I am actively encouraging my DD2 to go to uni away from home, sod the cost, because the time I had simply can not be bought.

I am, however, encouraging her to stay north of say Birmingham because below that, the housing costs are simply ridiculous.

Don't take my word for it, look into it. :A
I am firmly across the line. I won't impose my values on you if you keep away from mine.

If you buy ther smarties and the Solero the Solero comes up as £2.49 against Tesco £1.24 so for the £3 you get £1.25 back.

If you buy 2 soleros it will come up as £3.00 for the offer and £2.48 so 52p back?

Ooh, thanks, didn't realise the Soleros were so much at A :o I have been getting the soleros and cornettos and getting 98p back as I didn't get any takers for the smartie ones here :(

If soleros are your thing (:):):) tasty), then I think 2 packs on a straight comparison vs either T or M will give a better return than using the smartie cones as a trigger - same for cornettos vs T or S.

Cornettos yes but don't think soleros do, they are £2.49 vs £1.24 at T getting back £1.25 plus 10% on the £3 spend for the smarties and soleros.
