Dads hospital bag... What to add?

I have been regularly buying bits for my hospital bag and for the baby, each time I add it to the pile myth OH asks where his stuff is.

So I am planning a hospital bag as a surprise for him, after all he will certainly need something to keep him going.

So far I have;

- New top, so he looks good meeting new baby.
- magazine, one I wouldn't normally fork out for.
- lucozade
- snickers
- change for the coffee machine
- three "pub night" vouchers for his paternity leave, he thinks he's going to be housebound for the whole time :rotfl:

But what would have actually been useful for you/your partners? It will be just us on the day and I've got a £50 budget for bits and bobs.

All ideas welcome, I've got until September to buy and hide it all!

Buy him a toy, bear, whatever with daddy's girl/boy if you know sex, or something that says from daddy for him to give to the new one as well. Throw in a digital camera, or one of the one use cameras as well.

Maybe look at some wash/freshening things, wipes for him along side clean clothes. Don't forget a little travelling pillow (blow up or proper) and maybe a little blanket in case it's a long one! :D

After having been in the hospital for over 24 hours with me having our first child what my OH really wanted was his toothbrush and some fresh underwear. So a small set of travel toiletries might not go amiss? Plus more than one magazine, I slept a bit inbetween flurries of activity and OH got bored. Also, maternity units are hot so a pair of shorts and crocs or sandals might be useful rather than his work suit, if he comes in to meet you there from work.

I was going to suggest toiletries as well, like deodorant and toothpaste :)

Maybe something else to help pass the time? Like a travel-size board game of some sort?

Can I suggest some more snacks and drinks? Hospitals don't generally look after the blokes, my OH nearly passed out (and I know one poor man who actually did pass out!) through lack of food/drink! Maybe some chewing gum for if he gets a little stale or like others have suggested a toothbrush/paste.

On the other hand make sure whatever you spend out on can be used at other times! I had a few things packed away (trousers that zipped off into shorts, snacks etc) - never had time to even think about any of it as DS1 was out pretty quick. My other half got me a T-shirt later on "from" our son which said "I'm the Daddy" on the front of it which was quite good for photos!

My OH has had his hospital bag packed for a while now and he has put a change clothes, a wash bag, a bag of change and his camera in it. We just need to put snacks, drinks and my medical notes in it and we are done.

I was taken into hospital late on a Weds night. Husband sent home to sleep, i was induced at 6.30 am Thursday morning when husband returned, daughter born by emergency section at 9.30am, husband home by 11.30am as baby in SCBU.

As WestonDave says, don't make too many plans !
