I hardly ever go to the supermarket at the weekend but popped in to M&S for some milk.

I had no idea that people were so much worse on a weekend! Two old ladies blocked an entire aisle, separately standing with trolleys length on staring at the shelves trying to decide. For ages - I went away and came back and they were still there.

And a couple standing back to back looking at shelves on opposite sides of the aisle, blocking it completely.

I expected M&S to be better than Tesco!

Next time I run out of milk on a weekend, I'll do without till Monday...
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Have to agree with "peachyprice" on the pensioners shopping at peak times, especially during weekday lunch times. OAPs and unemployed should be banned from shops, banks & post offices between noon and 2pm.
Only other thing that bothers me (a bit) is people seeing you load your car when car park is busy and assuming you're leaving so wait in their car. When this happens, I load car then lock it and walk off.
  • How old does the child have to be, before the SA thinks about whether to refuse you the sale of alcohol in case you give it to said child? Do they think that you wouldn't give wine to a 3yo but you would to a 5yo?

For me (I worked for Threshers for years) it was the level of involvement of the child rather than their age, for example if they picked up or carried anything alcoholic I was on my guard, as the situation could be viewed as the child choosing 'their' drinks. If they were choosing or carrying booze I would ID them or ask their parent to "confirm that they were over 18". (I will not allow my children to pick my or OH's drinks off the shelf because of this; I think it puts the SA in a potentially awkward position.) If you have a customer's child carrying a bottle of wine you probably view them differently to how you view a customer with wine who also has a child.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

I hate shoppers who expect me to know where every single item is (seaweed, anyone?!!)

Um, asking a member of staff where something is if you can't find it is not unreasonable in any way.

Maybe you need a new job...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned my pet hate - self service tills randomly calling for assistance. "unexpected item . . ." etc

That's on top of the reduction in jobs they cause.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

Really, so when im just walking through the store to start work, and I have my bag, phone, car keys etc, when customers can obviously see im not working, and when I finish off work too (even when I take my name badge off) they still stop me. so apart from wearing a large coat, which I wont in the spring, summer and autumn im supposed to walk round and find your shopping? Err I was asked for "the thing you string beans with"? even before I got through the doors. umm "wheres the bloody icecubes" (another stupid question, and yes they did swear at me!!!
And no I don't need a new job thankyou. Just a few respectful customers.

I wouldn't expect a member of staff to know where every single item in the very large supermarkets is. I would hope that they can at least send me in the right direction (and hopefully the right aisle!), but there must be hundreds of thousands of different products.

I don't expect them to know everything either, but they are the right people to ask! Its not exactly worthy of 'hate' is it?

Once we get all your stuff though we can then help you pack. It speeds things up and keeps my scan rates up. There's all that space so why not use it.

i was in aldi today and the girl on the checkout was talking with the person in front of me and was saying how they have a target of how many items they're supposed to scan through in an hour

the one that really bugs me when i'm at work is when i ask a customer if they need a bag and they reply with "yes if you have one"

i wouldnt ask you if i didnt have any

i'm sometimes tempted to want to reply with "i have one but you cant have it" :rotfl::rotfl:
