Bloody hell, how did that happen? I never downloaded anything today, and I have MS Security Essentials on. Not had any virus ever in some 15 years on the Internet....
Thanks for the link, trying to get un-infected now!
Sorry if I have caused any wrong alarm with anyone
Good luck with the disinfection0 -
I can't see them either.
Get yourself a shower quick (Or better antivirus) you dirty girl!0 -
The intertubes can be a scary place
You could have been infected by simply visiting a website (drive by download - where a virus or malware is automatically installed when you visit a website, possibly Java or ActiveX)
Are you using Internet Explorer?
Instead of following the steps in the guide that I mentioned above, you could try MalwareByte's (free): http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
Make sure that you update the program once it is installed and then run a scan.
I don't have much faith in Microsoft Security Essentials, I had a PC that was infected with malware a while back and M$ essentials could not clean the machine but MalwareByte's got rid of the malware easily.Bloody hell, how did that happen? Seems something really really nasty. Scans have so far not found anything and I have no weird sounding programs installed.
Been using Quidco a bit tonight, was shopping for Epsom ink cartridges and a new Santander 123...must have stumbled across some real nastiness in the process. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before......0 -
Have you updated Adeobe Acrobat by any chance? Or updated your anti virus software? It happened to me too, every time I updated it - do you get search results coming down the side of the screen? In the end I went to:
Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features
(actually clicked on Uninstall a Program). Sorted by date order and uninstalled the latest updates, that sorted it.
However, if you DO get royalties, please let us all know.

Thanks a million, Ximian -still scanning. Malwarebytes found something called MagniPiiC, so that's gone now but I am still seeing the links so I am running more scans now.
gallygirl, thank you for your suggestions - will do them next if I am still affected/infected. Such a nuisance.0 -
Check all the add-ons on your browser and remove ones you don't use.IANAL etc.0

yes, good tip, done that already. Nothing there that I didn't recognise as wanted. But seems Malwarebytes and/or Anvi Smart found the nasty and killed it. Phew! A million thanks again to Ximian, saved my surfing life for now ;-)0

You're welcome, hope it helps.
Are you running a MalwareByte's quick scan or a full scan?
It might be worth trying a full scan, will take longer but might find more malware that the quick scan didn't detect. Thanks a million, Ximian -still scanning. Malwarebytes found something called MagniPiiC, so that's gone now but I am still seeing the links so I am running more scans now.
