Hi guys

Just wanted to know if anyone was expereincing same problems as i am.

Im using iphone 4s , in the second month of my contract with talkmobile where i get 500mb.

What I have noticed is that the data seems to get used up quickly on talkmobile.

I was with Vodafone previoulsy with 500mb data using the same phone and i rarly went over 400mb, but currently my surfing habbits havnt changed, i just use facebook app and other news apps, not viewing videos or anything like that.

I have download few data monitring apps and whats happning is that when im using few mins of browsing on facebook, just reading the news feed, it using up approx 20mb of data where previously is was about 1mb ish on voda.

there is defo issuses with talkmobile charging more for data, i have also noticed this in other basic news and sports apps where its eating more data than before.

talkmobile dont want to know anything about it, im having to get additional 500mb data to cover my self as i was charged £25 extra last month.

only thing changed from previous vodafone was the new settings are now talkmobile.co.uk in the data settings

talkmobile data seems to more hungry when using the data.

wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this.

abit long winded, but thanks in advance

This is just a guess as i'm not familiar with talk mobile. But some networks like O2 and Vodafone compress the data they send to your phone. So pictures sent to your phone are low quality on Voda etc...

On talk mobile there is no compression so you end up using a bit more data even if you're browsing habits are the same.

The fact is that in this day and age 500mb is not enough for anyone (unless they just use emails/don't use data) and the reason o2 and Vodafone still offer it is because they compress the data right down where as other networks don't.

I'm not sure if Talk Mobile don't compress data but it looks like they don't.,

    Fact?
IMO, 500Mb is a sufficient amount for the majority of people that spend at least half of a day on WiFi and never use their phones for streaming/downloading and updates over 3g.

On a modern day smartphone without data compression this is a fact.

A lot of people will never use 500mb. But if you use a smartphone only over 3G in a month, even for basic things, then it's going to go over 500mb easily. OP and I never mentioned anything about Wi-Fi.

I'm talking pure uncompressed 3G data on a smartphone with background updates, email syncing, browsing every day etc...

The OP can reduce his data usage by using Wi-Fi more often, disabling background data, and using an app like Onavo to keep check.

However, you did say " not enough for anyone (unless they just use emails/don't use data)..."

I think there are very few people with smartphones and internet access, but without WiFi at least at home.

Yeh sorry, i was trying to say apart from a group of people. Those people have been defined properly in my previous post.

But i still believe it to be true that 500mb can be used up easily if you use a smartphone everyday for internet access on a smartphone for basic-medium things. (even no streaming/dl as mentioned before)

Are you certain the phone is using wifi when you are at home?

I agree with this, I don't use my phone at home at all and have it set to use wifi at home anyway. Using around one hour per day on 3g while away from home, 5 days a week, I go over my 500mb limit usually by the 3rd week of my usage month. I don't stream/download either, its browsing forums like this one.

    Thanks for replies

I do use WIFI at home and use that program onava, Also downloaded megabytes which kinda gives real time alerts of data usage after u have browsd or downloaded something.

I think it will be down to compression thingy u were saying that talkmobile dont do.

im going to try my sim in another iphone to see if its the same.

Had this with my daughter and a £85 bill for one month.
My issue is we were never informed she had gone over the limit.
Its the 1st time in nearly 2 years any data has been used as it was switched off.
We have no idea how it was switched on, but she did have a software update in the month.
The data was used so we have paid the monies, BUT.
I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AT THE END OF THIS CONTRACT.
THEY SAY ITS NOT UP TO THEM TO WARN PEOPLE THEY HAVE GONE WAY OVER ANY LIMIT.
    Already ordered a giffgaff sim
