The problem with taking their free upgrade to 1MB. You have bound yourself to their new T&C's which Cap your download limit to 1GB of downloads per month. Whereas there was no such restriction on the 300KB connection.

Fine if you don't download much. But you'd be surprised just how much Bandwidth you use just by simply surfing. The other thing is you cannot go back to your 300kb connection. So if you go over your limit as many people are. You'll be finding yourself getting flack from NTL and them asking you to upgrade!

Is it possible to calculate your usage easily before making a decision?

  • q1) what is the limit on 2meg - if I upgrade from 750k?
q2) is it possible to downgrade from 750k to 300k,. then upgrade to 1meg at the same time?
  • I think it's crazy that broadband providers limit their usage.
Freeserve/wanadoo/tiscali do this, but it makes it appear cheap, when it really isnt...
Broadband is meant to be "always on"...

2mb cap is 30gb per month,

you cant downgrade to 300k now but you do have the option to go to the 1mb.

you can change between 1mb,2mb,3mb after 30 days also.

The 1Mb cap is 3Gb per month. I have the 1Mb and installed netmeter. It would appear that 3-4 hours surfing per day with a few downloads will use about 1-1.5Gb for the month.
If I need to download lots of large files, eg music, I'll probably wait until near the end of the month when I should have plenty of spare capacity.
  • DID you know that if you are an existing customer and have phone, broadband and TV, you are newly entitled to a £7.50 per month discount? The Customers services know nothing about it, but if you phone the sales line 0800 183 1234 and choose the option for existing customer wanting new equipment, they know about the discount. They don't advertise it! I read it in a magazine and have done it myself - and what's more it only took me a couple of minutes from picking up the phone!

Also If you go on to the ntl website you can click to upgrade your broadband to 1MB at no extra cost.
