Went to Morrisons tonight and picked up a small tub of grapes, priced at £1. No weight on the pack but just the price per kilo.
I put them back again and picked up a small bunch of grapes quite a number more than in the tub, price at the checkout 75p.
Prepacked bag of Granny Smiths (4) £2 no weight on the pack but the price per Kilo.
4 loos Granny Smiths, 1.60.
Watch out ladies and gents, we are being scammed.

If there's no weight in the pack use the scales to weigh them. That's what I do
Also not all pre packed fruit or veg is more expensive. In fact potatoes can be cheaper bought in a big pack and peppers.0 -

My local Morrisons doesn't have scales either, nor do several others including the local Asda and the Sainsbury's closest to me.0

Hardly a scam, but always trust a supermarket as far as you could throw their head office. No scales at our Morrisons, I looked for them first.happy_to_be_here wrote: »My local Morrisons doesn't have scales either, nor do several others including the local Asda and the Sainsbury's closest to me.
The self-service checkouts are equipped with scales. (It's the only thing the [CENSORED] things are useful for, IMHO.) If they "get funny" about me just weighing stuff, I just ask them (ever so nicely) to take me to the scales on the shop floor.
I wonder what the Trading Standards people would make of them selling loose fruit and veg' but not providing customer scales? If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I shop at Morrisons and always check the price per whatever it's measured in.
If I picked up the small tub, I'd check the price per kilo. I'd then look at the shelf label and see the price per kilo of the small bunches of grapes.
I would then make my purchase on that basis.
The informations in front of you, it's not really a scam.0 -

Asda often get around this by saying something like "loose grapes £2 per KG" "pre packed grapes, £1 per pack"
All too often similar items show the price in different terms for different items.
For example, you have 2 different sized packs of the same item, one would say "£1 per kg" and the other says "£2.30 per lb" so you have to do a conversion and faff around just to work out how they compare in price.0 -

Are you sure about that one? I'm sure they have to price things in metric and can only display lbs for display purposes to the old timers.0 -

Just checked grapes in Asda and cant see any reference to lbs.
If you look at the ticket, it'll be per kilo, or per 100g or similar. Easy enough to work out the cheapest.0 -
Pricing and pricing per unit are covered by The Price Marking Order 2004. It's enforced by Trading Standards and breaches are a criminal offence.

And the Morrisons grapes do have the weight on them. I know the £2 tubs do. Which are 400g and work out at £5 per kilo. Which means it is cheaper to by the loose grapes as the they are £4odd a kilo.0
