Proposal on a shoestring!

Hi,

Having read a lot of other posts on this forum to get some proposal ideas I've noticed that many people seem to have quite a large budget to play with -- I would love to do something extravagant, however I need to do this on a much cheaper scale (money is extremely tight for me at the moment). Ideally I wanted to propose on the London Eye where we had our first date however I can't afford to get a private capsule at £300 and I'm not sure she'd want to be proposed to in a capsule full of strangers! She might also get suspicious about me wanting to go back on the London Eye again!

Has anyone got any cheaper ideas? Obviously I still want to make it memorable/romantic and have been racking my brain for ages about this now. Any ideas would be very apprecated.

there's more to romance than money! sunsets are free and can add a lot of atmosphere. re-visiting the site of an old date that has significance is lovely - it doesn't have to be the first date though.

romance is in the details that will make it special to her - not in how much you spend.

How about a secret picnic in the boot of your car, dive her somewhere pretty. Single red rose, blanket to sit on soft music cd playing in car.

You could always arrange a family gathering at home for your return with friends and family to celebrate. Im sure family would be more than happy to lay on a small buffet each bringing there own special dish

When I told my OH that I loved him, I had it iced on a chocolate champagne bottle from Thorntons. Had I been the one to propose I'd have done it in exactly the same way.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

I got proposed to in my parents house after we'd stayed over one night to look after the rabbit, I'd just got back from the toilet and he was in my room on one knee. It might not sound the most romantic proposal but it was perfect :)

I think in the London Eye would be fab - never mind theother people there. If I was there and someone asked their OH to marry them I would start crying - it's lovely - go for it. They'll all think you're wonderful:)

What about hiring a little rowing boat on a day out somewhere, and, as you get further from civilisation and the noise drowns out, and you have her full attention, propose to her then. You dont have to do the one knee thing thats a load of rubbish and just embarasses most women. Also, it would be good if you had a rucksac or something with a half bottle of chilled champagne and some glasses and some nice chocolates...

Or you could always go for a walk somewhere hilly. climb to the top of the hill, sit down and catch your breathe, let the exhilarating views set the mood and then tell her that this is how she makes you feel, on top of the world

    and then pop the question...

Or, how about, if she is an animal lover you buy her a little kitten or puppy, and tie the engagement ring around its neck with a ribbon when you present it to her

she will have memories of your engagement for a long time to come then

Or, like Hugh grant in Mickey Blue Eyes, take her for a chinese meal and get the restaraunt to put the meal into a fortune cookie

That may be cute, but owning a puppy or kitten is a 15 year-odd commitment and is not something that should be done on the spur of the moment.
