For me, this morning, it's now saying "Service Unavailable" right at the start of Move Money, instead of getting to the end, and they're also showing this message:

    Messages
We are experiencing a technical problem with our internet banking service and we are working to restore the full service as soon as possible. The 'Move Money' facility (which allows the transfer of funds between Abbey accounts) is temporarily unavailable but we expect this service to be restored shortly.

Abbey Business Banking won't work [at all!] either!

Things seem to be getting worse instead of better...

The online banking problems at Abbey were mentioned on the BBC's Working Lunch on Tuesday and again yesterday. They seem to have picked up the issue so I'll be tuning in today to learn the latest news. It is shameful that Abbey have been so poor at communicating with customers about this (shades of Gordon Brown's McCavitty style of problem management!).

The problem is obviously worse than "maintenance and upgrades". Something very serious has gone wrong. It is the worst service breakdown I have seen from a major player. They should stand up and take responsibility.

BTW on Working Lunch yesterday it was stated that Abbey would be prepared to consider compensation on a case by case basis.
  • Wednesday congestion charge payment via internet saw to my card being declined, joint account holders was accepted. At Parcel Force same thing happened. Phoned Abbey told there was no problems my card is okay and nothing had been declined. Thursday another internet payment declined. Phoned Abbey and insisted on talking to card department. There is a problem with some cards but they don't know what or how to deal with it. Their advice? Just keep trying it!! What if I purchase petrol with no other means of payment, my card is declined and the police are called? Could not answer but simply insisted that I should keep trying to use the card. Perhaps it was the Mad Hatter on the other end of the phone. Phoned complaints and was told not to use the card, she was not even using her own one. So currently have a useless card and cannot pay for anything with it and Abbey just shrug their shoulders.

I was unable to access e-banking from the 21st May and even when I got the message that it was all working I still received the message "not currently available please try later."
I have just telephoned Abbey and been informed that as my debit card had expired that was the reason.
The debit card in fact expired three years ago and Abbey at that time informed me that they were no longer issuing cards to overseas addresses and to carry on with the old number. How they can make changes in this way without consultation is indicative of how they treat their customers.
They were pretty bad before but with the Santander influence they now do not even care.
  • Hi

This is a problem still I moved some money over from my savings account to my cheque book account on Friday it still is not showing on the online statement but is on the balance screen

My account now looks like I am overdrawn as bills have gone out on my statement but my balance screen shows I am in credit

So going to ring them find out what is going on as I not sure if money moved or not

Anyone else had experience of this

DD24, I've had the same thing happen to me, but only when doing online banking out of banking hours. So if I were you'd I'd phone up and query. The more phone complaints/queries they get the better, at the moment.

I don't need to make any transfers at the moment but will test it out by making my usual transfer into ESaver on payday, which is Thursday.

Well, on the grounds of don't get mad, get even, I have applied for a Bank of Scotland current account (they're offering to pay 6% and give me £100 so a good deal anyway) and have opened an Egg savings account to replace the ESaver. And have written Abbey a strongly worded letter complaining and telling them how to run their business - basically, asking them to write to all their customers explaining what went wrong, commit to making information available if anything like this happens in future, waive all overdraft interest accrued in the last week, and of course apologise - and make an ex gratia payment, at least to people with ESaver accounts. Or I will take my money elsewhere.

To be honest, if they had been honest and made sure there was an informative notice on the e-banking website and a recorded message on the phoneline, I think a lot of customer anger would have been deflected. I've been with Abbey for over 20 years and probably have on average a transaction a day, with that sort of relationship with a provider you expect the occasional thing to go wrong - it would just be nice if they seemed to give a monkey's.
  • Well rang up and guess what? The systems are all down cannot tell me anything and to ring back in over an hour

I have checked my ATM and that says I am in credit so It would appear that Abbey have not updated the statements properly yet

my statement balance in online banking is showing as £200 less than the account balance again, my available balance has also jumped up by about £1k despite the fact that the only new transactions on the statement are 2 direct debits coming out. Very frustrating and not making it easy to manage finances right now but nothing they are doing has been to my detriment in any way so all I can really moan about is the annoyance of this.
