yes I was wondering what would happen to the time they had to vacate their room. It's not fair if they have to leave at 10 but if new guests are arriving they probably will to allow cleaning etc. So the idea of dinner at the hotel and then cosying them down at the airport is not really going to happen if they have been killing time for 12 hours

I don't understand the problem with "killing time" or "hanging around" on the final day. You are in the holiday destination of your choice - so just do what you would do on any other day until it's time to head to the airport.

Yes, you will probably have to be out of your rooms by 10 or 11am but just leave your cases at the hotel and go out to enjoy yourself. Your holiday is now a few hours longer than you were expecting.

Although - I expect they'll now lose those few hours at the other end

every hotel I've been to has somewhere you can store your luggage on your last day, and somewhere you can shower and change later in the day. its an extra few hours in the sun and a chance to have a nice meal outside the AI hotel, before heading off to the airport. The holiday has been extended by 10 hours, no?

    How old are the children?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Don't see the problem, the OP is paying, the kids either behave or pay for their own damn holidays.

Would suggesting a clip behind the ears if they play up get me banned?
(or a visit from 'Operation Yewtree' officers)

Does it not seem a bit like the Op is frightened of or does not like the kids,

"If I could afford to take the £700 loss of deposit I would cancel"

The OP says they would rather lose £700 if they could afford it,
rather than spend a bit longer with the kids! "I'm already dreading it"
"Some treat!". For £70 per hour I'd spend time with their kids, can it really be that bad. For God's sake get a grip, it's only a bog standard charter holiday not a bl**dy trip to the upper reaches of the Amazon (River not internet seller).

You've got a longer holiday for FREE!!!!

I don't have kids but I would be frustrated by the change too...I would understand it happens and nothing I can do about it, but I wouldn't be thrilled...I don't find the day of the flight home to be a particularly enjoyable day for starters - it isn't like any other day of the holiday to me as it's always got that having to get to the airport in good time thing hanging over my head, and the flight home, then the journey from the airport to home, etc. by that point in the trip I'm out of holiday and into wanting to be home mode...that's just me...and I wouldn't like to kill the best part of a day with no hotel room (even with somewhere to store the luggage)...it would just feel like I was in limbo all day, I think...so I can see why the OP is concerned.

but agree with those who have suggested that it will be what you make of it...at least you know now and can start thinking about ways to make the most of the extra time and accomodate the kids' schedules, etc...asking about a late check-out as claire16c suggested would be the first thing I would do - that would at least make the last day a bit more comfortable.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Just to put a different spin on this. I find for kids this is the best time for flights. They'll sleep on the plane, sleep on the train / coach / taxi home and you get most of your last day of holiday.

Personally I think Thomson have done you a favour. What would have been worse would have been one of Ryanair's flights from Lanzarote, where they leave at 07:10

OP - I would be equally annoyed and I don't have children.

I would generally be going to work the day after returning from holidays as would many people, so arriving home at 4am would be completely unacceptable.

Unfortunately, you can be annoyed by it, but I don't think you can do anything about it, as you did agree to the terms and conditions when you booked it
