who said i dont have friends nearby?
my friends are the support network that allow me to have a sommewhat normal life.
my daughter lives 40 miles away and both she and her husband work full time, so moving near her would be pointless as i would still be alone.
private renting is not an option, as it offers no security, and as a disabled person, security is even more important than it is to everyone else.
as a blind person, moving to a place i dont know, and people i dont know would be inappropriate to say the least..
lets permenantly blindfold you and drop you in a place you have no knowledge of and see how easily you would manage0 -
i know what my council have told me. i can apply but would be given no priority when it comes to banding as i am adequately housed and not in need
they cant put you on a list for something that doesnt exist!
YOU should really be doing your own research, if you are serious about resolving this issues....

"7.2 Housing Needs Band
We will place your application in this Band in the following circumstances:
...........
(i) you are a tenant of a Derby Homefinder landlord or of a private
landlord and have one bedroom that you do not use and want to move to a smaller property. If you have two or more bedrooms that you do not use you will be awarded an additional need

When disabilities are involved, moving miles away to find a suitable property aren't an option, they remove that choice. I've even looked in the next few towns, and the one bedroom properties are even rare there.... Moving out of the area is not an option for many, it would cost more to give them the support they get in their own home towns.neverdespairgirl wrote: »No, I wouldn't. But my personal solution wouldn't be to sit around and be "vocal" in the hope that someone else would cough up, it would be to help my daughter financially, or practically.
I already do that on both counts. Which is why I can't have her moving out of the area. You guys who are against it can't have it both ways. I already pay for the petrol to get her to hospital appointments, I'm round there 2-3 times a day depending on her needs. Having an illness myself, there's only so much I can do.Dovah_diva wrote: »Is anyone else struggling to believe the whole 'only 2 one bedrooms properties in the entire borough' claim? Because I am.
I don't struggle to believe that given how few there are here. Although not the whole borough. There are 5 available for private rent in this town, only one of those would be suitable for someone with mobility needs.
If you moved ten or fifteen miles away are your friends going to abandon you? If so, they're really not friends.
Just gonna quote that part, it's what's happened with a lot of the DD's friends. They are all still bouncy 22 year olds, while she's like a wee old woman. She still sees some of them regularly, but I could count the ones that remain on one hand. I can't blame them either, she would arrange to go out with them, then by the time she'd get herself all ready, the fatigue would hit and she'd be unable to go.
She was also lucky in her allocation of accommodation, OT said that her flat couldn't be adapted and she got awarded her flat 2 weeks later. I applaud them in their swiftness.
I also have a friend who's trying to downsize to a 2 bedroom, but is given no priority to do so, it seems our council don't want to help4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

But you already said that your daughter uses her DLA Mobility for the purpose that it's intended for; surely transport to hospital appintments must be top of that list?0 -

I cover those, which I don't mind doing. She would have less then to do the every day stuff which I believe she needs. Since being awarded DLA her depression has improved a lot. That along with the counselling she's finally receiving after a year of waitingI'll continue to fund it until she can get her license and car, after all that's what us mums do

so i am selfishly struggling to manage on my income now that i have to pay 1/5 of my cash income towards housing?
there are 2 1 bed prperties... how often do you think they will become available? there are only 2 properties to mutually exchange with ( the same 2 properties)
so either a single person or childless couple. so another few yerars before either would want to move.
you get told the answer to you problem is to downsize, then get called for trying to do what youve been told you should be doing!
the people that are saying its you that is selfish are prob not in your position and see that people that get any sort of benifet as not deserving of anything !
they prob dont have to worry about silly things such as eating , heating , water !
they seems to be lots of people on high horses , they seem to for get they can soon fall off there high horse and just be like me or you and before i get shot down in flames i work0 -

Social Housing, in Nanny's area, is let via CBL. The property is advertised, interested people bid on it and the property is let according to the housing need of the individual bidders and the length of time they have been waiting to be re-housed. That way, the property goes to the person in the highest need who has been waiting the longest.
They even offer priority to people under-occupying, as Nanny is.
However, Nanny would like to bypass all that bidding bother. In fact, she would like to avoid applying altogether. Her idea of a fair, reasonable and transparent allocations policy is one where Nanny points at a house, phones a manager and gets it... sod anyone else who might be interested or in even greater need.
To some, that may sound a tiny little bit selfish. But I'm sure you know better, your horse being as high as hers!!!!0 -

thanks for the thought you put into your answer though
i havent just sat back and let this situation occur. i have considered every option i can think of,
Not at all - I expected most of those to have been options that you'd explored, but figured it might be useful to list them in any case.
Its clear to me why moving any significant distance will be hugely disruptive to you. I wouldn't necessarily say you're "unable" to, but I appreciate why its very low on your list of preferred options.
If you are thinking of the lodger route, there's a PDF guide at www.spareroom.co.uk/bedroom tax for social tenants considering lodgers that you might find useful.
Best of luck in resolving the situation.0
