Bad Driving

If it is the 'commuters' going to and from purgatory could it be they are so used to killing each other at work through competition they get in the 'little' space and think they now have a little power and try and push others around.0

Common sense is just lacking in alot of drivers.0

Sometimes it feels like they hand out licences like sweeties.0

I'm happy to drive my 13 inch wheel 1l polo into the hedge at absurd angles - while 4x4 drivers wait in the middle of the lane a foot away from the verge.
It's the least I can do to keep your massive offroad tyres from getting muddy or grass stains on them.
Also if the lanes too tight for that, please don't consider reversing 100 yards into that lay-by behind you - just stare at me impatiently like some s**t on your shoe and allow me to reverse a quarter of a mile plus to find an opening big enough for my polo and your monster truck (not forgetting the massive clearance you need either side before driving through!)
Rant almost over - Please note there are some awesome 4x4 drivers out there and I salute them. This rant only applies to those who drive as a fashion accessory or a personal armored car for their family (and only those mentioned who drive with a complete lack of consideration!)
Extra props to the pr*ck that drives his huge MPV at 50mph+ just after the end of school, slaloming amongst parked cars who got there on time - I hope the extra time at work or the upset avoided your child by being ontime - will salve your conscience on the inevitable day when you kill 1 or more innocent kids who are trying to get home.0 -

Do you use the same road as me?

These so called 'mothers' have got too much time on their hands in my opinion only have the big 4x4's as a so called status symbol - they stand around chatting only to try and out do the next prat - instead of a status symbol it just says look at me I'm a silly cow who has managed to push hubby out to pay for it.
Do you read the so called Daily Mail?
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
if we drive appropriately, exercising due regard for how far we can see clearly ahead, then we should have no problems...if needs be....actually stopping our vehicles.
This action then places the onus on the other [self-centred?] driver to negotiate our stationary vehicle?
Of course, it helps to be able to 'film' their subsequent actions, for that all-important insurance claim..if needs be......and I suppose there is something to be said for the fitting of a data logger [to show we were actually stopped at the time of impact?].......but in any normal event, such actions on our part will give the other driver somethign to think about?
And..if they do clout us, and continue on, we ought to have noted their reg number as they approach.....so we can report, to the B-I-B, a 'failure to stop'......?
And..if they do clout us, and do stop, it upsets their timetable no end?
The problem is, few of us actually have the awareness, or the desire, to actually stop ourselves?
Of course, when we 'stop', we are not going to be on, or 'in', the grass verge or hedge, are we??No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Modern day Life means
People on auto pilot thinking about stressful next tasks.
Using mobiles & OR following SatNav instructions.
Screaming Kids in vehicle.
Selfish uncaring attitude to other road users.
Changing radio, other music equipment in vehicle.
Lighting up Cigarettes & other jug-lings task connected with.
IT'S GREAT TO BE ON THE OPEN ROAD :cool:There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times

Actually on the sort of road where you are sharing road space with people coming the other way, you probably want to double that stopping distance, and even then it only works 100% if the oncoming vehicle does the same.0 -
'Anticipation' is the skill most lacking.....?
With an approaching vehicle which is not visible, the problem is the 'approach speed'...?
[the speed your two vehicles are actually coming together?]
Your speed plus theirs?
Thus, when a vehicle does come into view, the amount of time we have to cope with their presence is the same as if we ourselves were moving at that 'approach speed'.
To mitigate the effects of the approach speed, our own speed could be reduced to a lower level [but there is a limit to 'how slow' we should want to move?].....with the most beneficial effect coming from 'road position'.
Thus we should switch to a 'defensive' position...[probably as far over to the left as we dare, on approach.] This has the effect of leaving an 'escape ' route for the unseen vehicle to take, down our right side...probably in a state of blind panic too?
It does work....I see the evidence of such thinking every day at work.
When I suggested 'stopping', above, I admit to particularly thinking about an approaching vehicle which is not making much effort to leave enough room for us to pass comfortably.
But, 'stopping' isn't a course of action the ordinary driver in such a position, would consider.
However, it works for me.....and isn't an 'abrupt' action either...so a following vehicle will only have a real issue with what I do......if they are too close [less-than-2 seconds?]....something I do not concern myself over....[given my propensity for getting 'new' vehicles courtesy of other's insurance cover?]
The expertise is honed from coaching others when driving large green vehicles down narrow roads....the wider a vehicle is, the more narrow our roads become?
In fairness to those drivers who 'gallop on regardless'.......?
The popularity of brick-like MPV's, SUV's, Mini-bricks, half-bricks, 4x4 bricks, posh bricks.....has led to an issue I possibly have identified..that is for the 'average' drive, ensconced inside their brick, there is an increased difficulty in judging [guesstimating?] how close the vehicle is to the left kerb?
They think they are 'next to the verge' when in fact they are probably a metre or so wide of it?
The same thing seems to happen when the follow another car?
They misjudge the effect of their vehicle's bulk..thinking they are further back than what they are?No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
