Bad Driving

I regularly travel on some country roads near where I live at around 4-5pm daily and find that other cars on the road coming the other way are often over my side of the road or not close to theirs.

I travel at other times mornings and mid-day and this does'nt happen.

Can anyone please explain why?

Rushing to get home probably, either work or school run.
I doubt people are in as much of a hurry to get to work...

Yummy mummies on the school unable to control their 4x4s because (a) they can't drive and (b) they're busy texting

It's the same where I live and another thing that has become very common is people turning right into a road and also cutting the corner.
It's amazing the dirty looks received if you happen to be in that road, turning right, and close to the centre markings. It means they can't cut the corner having to enter correctly at right angles.
I was taught that when negotiating a right hand bend stick as far to the left as possible making it easier to see round the corner. Similarly, a left hand bend, keep as close to the centre line but NOT touching or crossing it.

Unfortunately they're not. If they were they wouldn't be on the road (or you could just drive over them if they were) :D

Inconsiderate, lazy, driving by people with cars that are too big and (feel) too safe, encouraging them to drive too fast for the roads they're on.

We get it a lot round here, especially amongst the repeat holidaymakers who think that because they come every year they "know the roads" even though they spend the rest of the year on dual carriageways

I agree absolutely but it's not just the 4x4s, it's all kinds of cars and what gets me is that they get to school so early when collecting kids and then stay around for ages talking .. clearly got plenty of time so no need at all for all that speeding down the middle of the road.

I had one of these today, driving a white 2008 VX Astra, road is easily wide enough, but she comes round a blind bend in the middle of the road, I had my wing mirror hitting the hedge on the LH side, so I was as far over as possible.

In this ^^ case she was an idiot, but you also need to remember that people overtake cyclists on blind bends too.
In fact it's usually the 43mph everywhere muppets that think they're safe drivers and then proceed to overtake cyclists in stupid places.

That's just one of those mis-perception things. The speed freaks do it just as often, but they're usually past before anyone notices ;)

When they are over your side, how far ahead can they see compared to how far ahead you can see? It's not uncommon for folk to use more of the road around bends they can see past

I think the reason is because as the road is fairly narrow they are worried about going on to the verge so drive in the middle, the problem with this is that they don't for some reason expect another vehicle to be on the same road.

I also get quite a few vehicles who don't get over enough expecting me to get over as it's narrow. What I do here is basically just come over towards them slightly, I'm driving a 3.5T van and could'nt care less if I knock their mirror off.

Another thing I notice a hell of alot is people who turn into a junction but when they do so they totally cut the corner off the junction and are on the wrong side of the road. This type of person is exactly the same as the one who drives in the middle of the road. One day I'll take somebody out who does this I sware, I won't be in the wrong and I have a dash cam to prove it
