Samsung KIES - V2

I'm not too sure how you think the software could "kill" your PC, but they are official Samsung ROM's and Odin is the official software for flashing them to the handset. Thanks - but I do not intend to use a 3rd party installation that could involve viruses etc and could even "kill" my PC and phone !!Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

The problem is that Kies is the official user path and for those that don't want to step outside of that path it is a pretty poor setup . Samsung simply cannot be getting enough complaints about Kies for them to change it .
Seen to many noobs mess up firmware through Odin to ever say its the best method for them .
It is but the instructions need to be followed and that seems to beyond many be they ever so simple .

I emailed Samsung (Tmobile couldn't help)
Response :
I’m sorry you are experiencing problems upgrading your Galaxy Note. I can understand your frustration about this.
Please be advised that the issue reported indicates that it would need to be upgraded by a qualified technician at one of our service centres as you have tried both manual ways of trying to update.
We have walk-in service centres all over the country that can perform upgrades while you wait. Just bring your device, with the proof of purchase to confirm your warranty, and one of our qualified technicians will be happy to help. Please note we advise backing up any important files on your device due to possible removal during the upgrade. We recommend calling the walk-in centre before making any travel plans to ensure a more convenient service.
You can check for service centres by postcode, please click on the link below and choose ‘Mobile Phones’ from the drop down menu:
