I am trying to download jelly bean !!
Download it from www.sammobile.com and flash it to the handset using Odin.

    PS

Kies doesn't play nicely with Odin, so uninstall it beforehand.

A total removal of Kies including registry entries may solve the problem .

Compatible go to Samsung GT N7000 support page and download Kies from there .

I would let the OTA update do its stuff and download overnight .

t has downloaded the file but is now "preparing firmware upgrade components... " and has been for 40minut
Definitely wrong that length of time and may be a corrupt download .

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus and a Samsung 7.0 Tablet and at first Kies worked (9 months ago) and then Kies upgraded and I have had problems ever since and to be honest I do not even bother trying now.

Forgot two other possible Kies solutions .
One the USB cable not original or faulty .
Two not using a USB port on the motherboard .

Kies has always been awful in my experience, I downloaded the update over wi-fi but it took me hours to connect my Note to Kies to back everything up.

Never bothered with kies - no need. You know when you buy a printer or webcam and it comes with dreadful software with an arcane interface that does a job badly? Manufacturers insist on supplying this rubbish, but it is usually completely unnecessary. Android updates ota, pointless backing anything up as it all lives sync'd in my google account anyway - no local data worth caring about. Kies seems anachronistic.

    OK Tried again
KIES has been reinstalled on my PC - Run and then plugged in Note to USB port using the original cable (which I also charge the phone using..)
KIES download the file and "prepares for upgrade components" ..
but after that - KIES closes and nothing else happens....

Thanks - but I do not intend to use a 3rd party installation that could involve viruses etc and could even "kill" my PC and phone !!

I have tried using both my laptop and main PC - Same results each time !!
cable is fine - original and backs up OK - and charges OK
Ports - have tried both remote and M.B connections - same each time
KIES is the reason - I have updated previously using KIES 1 (which is no longer available)
