the message for the wireless connection reads
The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network (followed by a Red cross)
bearing in mind everything was fine prior to my problem with the screen
when dell told me to unplug and replace the lead for the monitor/screen

it still has the same message as i said in a earlier post0 -
It's drastic I know but you could restore your system fully, i.e. to the way it was when it came from the factory? To do this, first back-up all your data (files, music etc.) then restart, and while it restarts, hold down CTRL and press F11 repeatedly. It will take you to a restore menu and you will lose all files and it will be in the state when it came from the factory...

This is a last resort really but it's there if nothing else works... fear not, MSE Techies will do their best
Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
Blackadder: Yes it is.
Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.0
