I have a seven week old Dell Inspiration 6400
on Wednesday night I turned it on and could not see the screen
this went on for 2-3 hours before it eventually came on

since then it’s been fine

however tonight it’s doing the same again
I can hear it coming on, and on some occasions I can see very, very, very faintly

can any one help me, I’ve found my handbook and tried 1 or 2 things still no screen
I have just emailed Dell tech support as well

try bending the screen right back, and holding the power button down for 6 seconds.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I'm lost here, sometimes it appears i can not even turn it on or off
unless i switch off at the mains :confused::confused:

there are times when i get the welcome sound (but still no picture)
then there are times when i get nothing

by the way what will bending the screen right back do apart from hopefully getting it to work

There is usually a little switch (not sure about that model), on laptops that detects when the lid is closed, bending it back can sometimes release the switch fully, don't force it though.

If you hold the on off button down for 6 seconds is there any change.

If neither of those work, it could be a backlight or a loose connection, get Dell to fix it (assuming it hasn't been dropped or damaged).

the only thing that happens when i bend it backwards (not forceing it of course)

    is it goes off

what has happened is i can see the visable screen very, very slightly on some occasions depending on what angle it is

you mentioned has it been dropped, NO WAY

so do i assume i need to contact Dell to arrange for it to be fixed
    i'm 7-8 weeks into a 12 month collect & return
so thats one thing i should not have to worry about (I hope)

It sounds like a loose connection to (or faulty) the backlight if you can see it faintly.

Not sure, it should say on the website. (all my Dells have lasted forever. touch wood).

Did you try holding down the power button for 6 seconds?

You could also give a light squeeze to the edge of the screen, and also around the base, it might reconnect the faulty connection.

yes, the only thing that happened was it went off

not sure about this, surely if its a fault/lose wire/connection it will need fixing a temporary fix it job is no good

just an update, i phoned Dell
and they helped me fix it over the phoned
basiclly it was according to them a lose lead
a bit like a scart lead from a TV to a Video, they told me its a common thing
any how it was just a case of undoing the fascia on the front
and doublechecking/replacing the lead for the screen (bit like i said earlier)

the strange thing was after getting no picture for 2/3 days
as soon as i got through to dell on the phone
what happens, yes the picture/screen came on

any how i have another problem now (not sure if you can help on this one)

my wirless connection that was set up fine prior to this problem with the screen etc
is now not reconised on my laptop
resuling in no connection to my wireless router

    any offers
