blimey i only came on here today and i think that is a silly comment taken that a vast majority on this site are here to claim back charges from banks for not keeping thier account in credit i take it your not one of them, we all work in my house hold and i have done since i was 15 years old and i have still run into problems with my bank , you are either very rich or had a help up with a start in life which the rest of us mere mortals have not, for me it has been hard work for 23 years and no parents to help me out and on my own from the age of 16 so never had the chance to get savings and the like, and if everyone had your attitude there would be no need for martins bank charges crusade would there????????
Couldnt have said it better myself0 -

You do have to pay charges - banks are not charities lol:rolleyes:
But, they are not supposed to grab all of a week's benefits at once. They can either agree with the customer over how much per week can be used, or the banks retain the right to take legal action against the customer to get their money.;)
I wish those on benefits etc., didn't have to pay charges, but I cannot see that happening, particularly as with tax credits, it feels like most of the country are actually getting benefits lol:rolleyes:
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Wait up, the OP said she's working. OP, are these charges relating to an account both you and your husband share? If so, does your pay get paid into the account? If it does, the bank will just say they are taking the money from your wages, not his benefit. You said he gets DLA. Does he get anything else? I think you need to take a look at your financial situation and see about cutting back, as you will continue to get deeper and deeper into debt if you don't acknowledge some responsibility for the charges and getting into debt in the first place. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

They dont - If they dont incur them in the first place!!!
That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard!!!:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -

I never pay charges, because I don't incur them.
But, perhaps, if you had to live for a year on benefits, you might well gain some insight into why people go overdrawn.

There are plenty of people that are on benefits that do NOT go overdrawn - in the vast majority of cases charges are incured because people do not manage their money effciently!!
I agree that whopping charges shouldn't be taken in one go leaving little to live on but to say that someone on benefits shouldn't be charged is bordering on insanity!!
Its simple really:
If your wants are too high for your means to supllythen bring down your wants to your needs!!:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
Are some people having a bad day? This seems to be getting a little harsh.
Nobody really wants to incur charges and everyone should try to live within their means but sometimes life happens and its not possible. A harsh charge of £39 on an account that only has benefits paid in and perhaps is only one or two pounds overdrawn could mean the difference between buying food or not! Sometimes a basic bank account will take up to ten days to clear a cheque (even Government ones) and that can make the difference.
In those cases surely the banks can give a little leeway.0 -
