who knows??? What comes to my mind is if the engine area had smoke coming from it who would purchase such car!!
Waiste of tax money.Or did the BBC create it just for the programe.LOL;)0 -
The garage said they had given the car 12 months MOT.
I didn't think they should have been shown as the body work damage wasn't unsafe, and was clearly visable to these who were buying the car.
Although the brakes were getting towards the end of their life they went through the MOT it would seem.runninglea wrote: »how did they get tax same day when watchdog claimed it had no mot?0 -
Re why pay the trader.
I suspect because until money has changed hands the deal hasn't been completed, and thus they can't then say "And this is the state of...." as it could be claimed that the person/company had not finished doing whatever they were doing (IE the transaction wasn't complete).
So by making the payment they're ensuring that the job/transaction has been completed.
As has been said, £3k for a TV program is pretty much loose change, the cheapest half hour show can easily cost £40k, and that's for something that is intended as daytime filler (also if the vehicle was worth £1.5k, it would likely be sold off at the end of the show, or used somewhere else* thus reducing it's cost).
Larah.
Do you check the tax returns of your car mechanic?
Penteado was a contractor for the BBC, not employed by them on payrol (IIRC he wasn't even directly contracted by the BBC, as I think the show he was in was made by a third party)- the same situation as when you get a mechanic to fix your car.
I always ask my mechanics for a copy of his tax and benefit records before I get him to change the brakes on my car, oddly enough I find it quite hard to get a mechanic...
Back on topic, I don't really watch things like Watchdog, but it is (from memory) meant to show things like sharp practice by companies, and I'm guessing the situation is probably quite a common one with car dealers, so by showing one example they're highlighting something they may have had many complaints about with various companies.
*Watch out for it on Topgear or something similar as one of their challenges (or part of a car crash Casualty;))0 -

Loose change for the BBC, three months' wages (before tax and stoppages) for some people.
But it's "all possible by the unique way we're funded" according to the BBC, so that's OK.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -

So the rest of us pay more because you don't?
I hope you are really proud of yourself.0 -

Without any context in regards to the other costs of producing a TV program it's a lot of money, but when you consider that a clip show (about the cheapest tV you can make) can cost something like £40k it shows how expensive TV is.
And to help a real world demonstration of how you can be shafted by car dealers (or dodgy tradesmen), it's probably worthwhile.
Especially as I doubt the BBC, will just scrap the car at the end, but either sell it on, or use it for another show.0 -

what nonsense, so if I came to your house and made a nuisance of myself so you were unable to leave your home, you would be happy for the police not to attend.0 -
BBC Rogue Traders presenter could face jail after admitting £24,000 benefits fraud
- Dan Penteado admitted eight offences going back to 2007
- He failed to declare BBC earnings of £56,000 between 2008 and 2011
- His solicitor put forward no mitigation and he will be sentenced in July
- He said earlier this month that it was 'all a misunderstanding'
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
