Income support

Hi

I am self employed I have even for 15 years, I still have work coming in but not a great deal, I want to claim income support and I appear to be entitled, my partner will not consent to me sharing any information about them whatsoever, I can't say that I blame them really it's my finances not theirs.

The A1 form asks for details about everyone but this is a significant breach of human rights and data protection, I am the one claiming not everyone else?

What to do?

What grounds are you claiming I.S on ?Are you a carer? or Lone Parent with child under five, and in receipt of child benefit for that child?

Income support is only available to a limited group of people:
    - lone parents with child under 5
    - carer's
    - people in receipt of IB, SDA, IIB (if this benefit income is below their applicable amount)
    - estranged young students

Do you meet any of the above?

Your partner (if you live together) and their income/savings/capital has to be declared when claiming means-tested benefits.

You'll not be able to claim income support unless you

    - have a low income
    - work less than 16 hours a week, depending on the amount of your wage
    - aren't in full-time study (but there are some exceptions)
    - don't get Jobseeker's Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
    - don't have savings above £16,000
    - live in Great Britain

You may get Income Support if you are one of the following:

    - a lone parent
    - on parental or paternity leave
    - a carer
    - a refugee learning English who arrived less than a year ago

The dot gov website suggests low income is a qualifying criteria?

I don't claim any benefits for anything nor do I have any kids or care for anyone, I suffer from depression & partially sighted but I don't claim for anything, never have.

The site is misleading, you need to meet one of the criteria in both groups.

Any claim you made for means tested benefits would be based on your household income, hence why your partner's details would be needed.

There is no chance I can give details of another totally unrelated person that's just crazy, she would lose her job if I mentioned her!

Why would she lose her job?

You do live together, don't you?

Depending on your partners income you may not be entitled to any benefits. Your partner would be expected to support you
