Bogus psychometric tests

That's very interesting, I haven't heard of this before. I assume it can only work if you are not aware that is happening? I can see how it might be quite effective, but it also feels a little dishonest and manipulative. I will read more about this, thanks.
You'll find that most behavioural science is pretty manipulative
There is some interesting research on council tax enforcement using nudge theory - worth having a look at. It is not an exact science, but does seem to get results.0 -
That leaves an hour and a half to research the ethos of fifteen companies, so six minutes each. How long does it take to find out that John Lewis has a team based approach, everyone is a partner and that is something you feel you would enjoy? Or Amazon is very customer centric, and places a great emphasis on reliability and efficiency?
Seconds; on the internet; if you google something like (company name) ethos;) i.e google John Lewis ethos
The top hit came up with this:-
"The John Lewis Partnership is unique. It’s like no other place you have worked before, or will ever work again. Just one of the reasons for this is that we put the happiness of our people – our Partners – at the heart of everything we do. Join us and we’ll ensure your job is not only fulfilling and rewarding but suited to the way you work best as an individual.
We’re also different because our Partners are active co-owners in the business, which means they share in the profits and have a real say in determining its future. What’s more, we take genuine pride in treating each other with respect and honesty – an ethos that is reflected in the outstanding level of service we deliver to our customers, each and every day.
This all adds up to making the Partnership and each of its household brands – John Lewis, Waitrose and John Lewis Insurance – extraordinary places to work. Join us and you’ll find that, whatever you want to do and wherever you want to go, the John Lewis Partnership can take you there"

Even easier, as that's the same for every internet based company trying to sell something.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Talk talk were doing that in a shopping centre, to try to get potentail customers to talk to them. They had a ball and were catching peoples eye and then throwing ither ball at them. When the person caught and returned it, that was their chance to speak to them.
I side stepped it and let it fall on the floor and they had to run after it.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Say for example, each question takes at least 30 seconds. The questionnaire would take roughly half an hour. That leaves 1.5 hours of the two hours you think it would take. If you spent 10 minutes researching each company and writing about how your skills fit their needs, that would then be another 2.5 hours just between those two. If you are taking less than 10 minutes per company, I am not sure you are doing it well enough to be worth anything.
Before the bogus nature of the test was exposed, it was possible to just click 'Next' without answering any questions, and still receive the same results.0 -
Next on the government's 'to do' list for the jobless, write 5000 lines each day:
"I am unemployed scum and must be sanctioned by any means possible."0 -

I've corrected that for you. With UC, medicals for those claiming sick; and no doubt a host of other things coming in for claimants of the many other welfare payments; expect more of this.RENTING? So has anyone on here actually been asked to fill in one of these tests? I haven't.0

You forgot to tell us how the ethos would fit your skills.
Also I see you didn't google Amazon ethos (or did you?...), as the first seven hits are about books etc. that it sells (title/name, Ethos/containing "ethos"), and the eighth is a video of Jeff Bezos explaining his/Amazon's ethos, in the light of his purchase of Zappos. The eighth, The Bezos Ethos, is about his letter to shareholders. I quote from it: "to continuously delight and surprise the customer... it doesn't matter if that costs profits... ".0 -
The questions should take you about ten seconds each. They want your instant answer, not for you to ponder it for hours. So we're looking at ten minutes in total.
You can do the initial registration for most agencies online, they'll call you in if they want to know more. Then, as you will already have a cv and various template letters ready it will take you next to no time to to do a few decent applications. Twenty minutes?

If you can't do that in a few hours, half a day at the most, then you definitely need extra support.
Not all, but the majority of agencies I have dealt with in the past, especially ones I have got jobs from in the past, want to see you in person. It is almost like an interview to check that you are ok to pass on to their clients. I certinaly could not do this all in 20 minutes online if I was expecting any kind of good outcome from this activity.
If I just use the same covering letters and CV's over and over that have been uploaded to some website, I don't expect a response. I spend time tailoring each of these things so it is suitable for the person I am sending it too.MissMoneypenny wrote: »Seconds; on the internet; if you google something like (company name) ethos;) i.e google John Lewis ethos

You haven't actually read what you were supposed to do. This doesn't tell me anything about how YOU fit into the ethos of the company, just that you can copy paste from the John Lewis website. If it was a copy paste job, sure I could do it in 30 seconds, but that isn't actually what they have asked for. They are asking you to sell yourself to John Lewis.0
