A Mobile phone problem

is it important to have that phone up and running or just a phone? I think your best option is to get another phone you can pick them up cheap as long as you don't want anything fancy. This would keep you going until you can save to get a better one. It is worth a try to dry it out now but this really needs to be done at the time and then its not always guaranteed.0

Do i bury the phone and the bits in the rice or do i just lay them on top of the rice ?
As i have already stated it is very important to me that i get my mobile up and running again
As Grumbler has said, bury it in the rice, and importantly, it must go somewhere warm. I tend to remove it every 5-8 hours and warm it further with a hairdryer, but you do need access to the main PCB to do it properly, I also use some aerosol switch cleaner to ensure impurities from the water don't start to corrode on the board.
Though if you have no experience of electronics, or cleaning electronic parts its probably better to get help.
Most importantly, do not put the battery back in until you are sure the phone is dry, not even just a sneaky impatient check to see if it will come on, it will only cause damage.====0 -

Is there a time limit that the above will work for?0 -

Yes, the quicker the better. Any phone left with the battery in will invariably do damage to the PCB or chips on the board, corrosion will set in quicker with an electrical charge present.
If the battery isn't pulled ASAP, and the phone dried within a very short period (hours or a day or so, at most) there will always be some damage done. Water itself doesn't do a great deal of damage, salts and particulates in the water are what tend to cause the problems.
The last phone I was totally successful at repairing was an iphone that went swimming in a toilet (why do people take their phone to the toilet?) and it was brought in within 2 hours of immersion. The phone was working perfectly after 3 days of drying and cleaning.
Washing machines and longer periods before repair tend to be terminal.====0
