Aww, you're such a nice person to buy them ALL a present. I'm sure that Mum and Dad wouldn't expect a pressie but if you want to get them something how about something that they can do/share together. After having a baby lots of couples don't have time for each other as all the focus is on the 'small noisy one'.

After my first baby my friend bought me and my OH a Marks and Spencers meal, ready to cook potatoes, pre-prepared veg in a bag, a ready to eat pudding and a bottle of wine....all in a big gift bag. It was fantastic!!!!

JJ my neighbours MIL stocked her fridge and freezer with M&S ready meals etc so they didn't need to go shopping for a week, what a great MIL :D

You guys need to be part of a church!

Whenever someone has a baby in our church, a rota is organised so that a hot (or a homecooked bung in the oven) meal is brought round every night for 2 weeks after you get home from hospital. My midwife was highly impressed when i told her, and also appreciated the slice of cake someone else had brought round.

We also had offers of shopping, gardening, cleaning...worth having another sprog for!!!!!!

back to the topic thread...i really appreciated a voucher for a mobile beautician to come round after i had my boy last year. She gave me a manicure and pedicure which I really appreciated at that time...and there was no time limit on the voucher. Or blockbuster vouchers as I also got through the first series of 24 in record time whilst feeding!?

If you know the new mum well, a packet of condoms and a tub of KY is always worth a laugh...the reaction on the new mum's face is a picture!

    lol!

i like the idea of a ready meal though, that would be fab. we don't tend to buy gifts for the parents in our family, we just buy for the baby and any other siblings to avoid jealousy. when i had my first though it was nice when my aunt came to visit with a box of chocs for me instead of a baby gift, hospital food wasn't that nice so i appreciated the chocs lol! quite a few people gave me boots vouchers too, so i could choose whether to pamper myself, buy clothes for baby or just buy baby equipment.

when my sister had her baby i got a bonsai tree and had a little plaque made for it with the babys name and d.o.b - surprisingly inexpensive and a really nice thing that will last forever.
I think the idea of a mobile beauty technicain voucher is a great one..or even a hairdresser as new mums need to feel pampered and treating yourself to a salon appointment can be impossible at such a time!
or..there are these cushion called 'cushtie' at the gadget shop which are amazingly soft..good for the mum to relax on, and could be helpful with nursing i guess.

I always think the best present to buy is a big bag of nappies! New mum's never realise just how many they are going to go through. You know the kid is going to have loads of clothes and toys, people just can't help themselves. Buy them something practical!

But what if you're a reuseable nappy fan? Maybe a Boots voucher would give the freedom to buy disposables or wipes or nappy bags or breast pads or one of the many other things you just don't think you're going to need so many of, and go through like lightening!

must admit i used the boots vouchers i was given to buy baby essentials lol! it was nice to have the choice of treating myself but i needed the baby stuff more and it was a huge relief to be able to spend the vouchers on it, you always need more baby stuff than you expect and my boots also sold baby clothes at the time. boots sell reusable nappies too, liners, etc.

I'm sure even if they were planning to use reuseables that they wouldn't be offended with a bag of nappies. They'd probably only last the first week anyway!

true, i'm going to use washables but have a pack of disposables for hospital. i've been told that newborn poo stains, so i'll wait until baby's belly has settled down before using my washables lol!!
