first direct ISA

http://www2.firstdirect.com/1/2/savings/cash-isa?WT.ac=FSDT_CTA_SAV_CISA1002

"Cash ISA rates
Balance AER Tax free
£1+ 0.50% 0.50%
£5,000+ 1.20% 1.19%
£10,000+ 1.70% 1.69%
£20,000+ 2.20% 2.18%
£40,000+ 3.00% 2.96% "

Does that mean for £5760 subscribed it pays
a]1.19% on the lot
or
b] only 0.5% on £5000 and then 1.19% on £760 ?

    1.19% on the lot.

Which is an insult and you can get double that elsewhere.

The FD Cash ISA is only worth considering if you have £40K+ to put into it. It's a very good rate compared to others for an instant access account.
Anything less then £40K you should consider other options. There are numerous accounts on the market paying better rates.

HSBC have just lopped over 0.5% off their top rate.

    Expect First Direct to follow.

Typical. I missed out on Halifax's 3 year fix 'cause my M&S didn't mature until this week, so opened first direct's instead. I'm sick of these rates.

A note for next time, Halifax allow a 60 day funding window on their FRISA.

I have just moved my Isa from FD for the first time after several years due to the sudden significant drop in rates in February

I've got my money in FD rather than major isa with Santander. With the announcement of the government lending until jan 2015 I wish I'd stuck it in Santander. I hope they don't but FD will surely drop the top rate at some point.

The Santander ISA is more certain but I wouldn't feel too bad about the FD one. They offered the current rate when FLS was already operating, the extension doesn't really change anything except prolonging the pain for us savers. You might be fine just not sleep so well as Santander Major savers :)

Rubbish. The AER is 3% at both.
