easy get credit cards?

are some cards easier to get than others? r.e, credit checks? I have one with my bank, recently applied for Tesco card, got it, then got turned down by Virgin!! I know there is a link on main board to which credit agencies they use, couldn;t see tesco though!!

Presumably Tesco use Experian and Equifax as the cards are issued as a joint venture between Tesco and RBS.
