    Absolutely, I would second that alykatz. Gixen is brilliant, and even better if you pay the $10 a year for the additional Mirror service. I have never lost a snipe with Gixen unless I have not actually bid sufficient in the first place.

    Just had a look at Gixen - the Mirror service is now only $6
  • Goofbid seems to be failing completely since around two weeks. I usually had 4-8 goofbid snipes per day, within the past week, 50 per cent of them failed without any reason: sniping time was reasonable, bid was often double that of the eBay winning bid. The goofbid message for the failed bids reads either "status: awaiting snipe" or |"status: snipe in progress". When I view the snipe log, it is empty.

    This time it is not an eBay problem as in December 2012. It is a goofbid server or software problem. I suppose goofbid has failed beyond repair, has anyone suggestions for a better solution?

    Gixen seems to be the answer - not used it myself but will for my next snipe.

    I'm another who's used Gixen for the last 3 years without any problem and its so easy to use. :T

    The $6 charge for the mirror service (for extra reassurance that my bid is going to be placed) is nothing compared to the saving in time it gives me by not having to bid in the last few minutes.

    Just wanted to update this thread - Goofbid have now sorted out the problem, apparently they needed new servers because too many people were using the site;

    "We've now identified the root of the issue, and believe we've fixed it. So on a more positive note, these 3 new servers should make us more stable and accurate".

    I have used them again recently with no problems.

    I also started using Gixen while Goofbid were having problems and all my snipes worked. However, I must admit that I prefer the Goofbid format to Gixen.

    For my recent snipes I've used both, one set at 10 secs and the other at 6 secs. As it is not possible to outbid yourself this seems like a good way to guarantee that your snipes don't fail!
  • I think the problem is with Ebay, I have noticed that some Ebay times are not correct, ie it says it will end at (13 Aug, 2014 19:14:55 BST) but the countdown is up to 5 minutes out and the countdown finishes before the allotted time which I thing Goofbid is using !!!!
  • Perhaps the best solution is to use both - you cannot "outbid" yourself. So for something you really must have, snipe with as many tools as you can find, and/or bid manually and accept that some you win, some you lose.

    Thanks for that. I didn't realise that I could use more than one snipe but it makes sense when I think about it as long as both bids are for the same amount.

    Intrigued by this idea. I do use a sniper regularly (just the one though!). I know the fees are minimal so it's not a big deal, but I wonder what would happen if you sniped with 2 separate snipers - would you pay fees to both? Which one would win the auction?

    Why pay fees at all? gixen is free to use, you only pay if you decide to use the mirror service as backup.

    Haven't looked at gixen (never even heard of it until today!). I'm happy with the service I already have (for the time being, anyway). ;) I do pay a small fee but the service has always been reliable, and I feel you get what you pay for.

    If gixen is free, how do they make their money?
